AT IT’S BEST”• Since 1965 Tennessee state slogan has

been “Tennessee-American at it’s Best”. A positive message! Your job is to find people, places, events, business and organizations that can live up to Tennessee’s slogan for your history topic.

Focus on events, people, and the impact the Civil War had on our state and county.

EXHIBIT BOARDThe exhibit board is a visual representation of the research on a history project.

Labels and captions should be used creatively with visual images and color to enhance the message of your exhibit.

• Size - No larger than 40 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 6 feet high • Word limit of 300 words including all titles, captions, etc…..• Exhibit board must have this years theme on it• Construction and research of all entries must be done by students. You may

receive help and advice from teachers and parents on the mechanical aspects of creating your exhibit. You may also get help with typing or other written materials.

portfolioThe portfolio is a brief story of the research done for

the history exhibit board.

• One or more copies stapled or in folder placed in front of the exhibit board: 500 words or less and contain the following.

• TITLE PAGE - Needs to include the title of your exhibit, your name/names, school, grade and the contest class (individual or team).

• PROCESS PAPER - 1.Explain how you chose your topic 2.Explain how you conducted your research 3.Explain how you created your visual exhibit 4.Explain how your project relates to the theme• BIBLIOGRAPHY - Should contain all sources that provided usable

information in preparing your entry. Include the sources of visual materials and oral interviews.

CREATIVE TIPS• WORK ON WORKSHEET FIRST• CHOOSE 2 - 3 COLORS• USE A LARGE ENOUGH TEXT TO BE READ EASILY• KEEP IT SIMPLE: TOO MUCH IS TOO MUCH!• START IN THE CENTER AND THEN DESIGN LEFT

4-H TENNESSEE History Fair

• Bradley Square Mall- November 2nd, 3rd and 4th • Set up on Friday -3:00 to 7:00 p.m.• The project will be judged early Saturday. Do not

come to judging. • Winners will be called after judging. Be sure to put

a phone number on your entry sheet.• Sunday - The awards program starts at 2:00• All exhibits may be picked up Sunday 2:30- 3:30

pm

Awards• 1st place is $50- All grades/classes• 2nd place is $25- All grades/classes• 3rd place is $15- All grades/classes• Best in Show- one year family membership to

“Museum at Five Point” (sponsored by the Museum)

• Wilma Goins Award- Three $10 awards going to excellence in research and display

• Creative Award- Three $10 awards going to understanding exhibits

Remember• History Fair has two parts- Exhibit Board and

Portfolio• Exhibit Board- No more than 300 words. Be

creative, be neat, and start with worksheet• Portfolio- No more than 500 words. Three

parts-title page, process paper, and bibliography.

• Your 2012 “Theme” must be on exhibit • Find a topic and start your research now!
