The CEO-Chairman of Botek, Yıldırım GELGİN, is the Founding Partner and Past President of the

MOTORWAY & HIGHWAY EXPERIENCE: Botek is a 41 year old Turkish organization
specializing in the engineering design and
supervision of major infrastructure projects.
Botek has been involved with the building of a
third of the motorways and expressways in
Turkey, and has successfully completed
engineering works in motorways and expressways
in other regional countries exceeding 3000 km in
length. Botek has completed various infrastructure projects in value of over US$ 38.000.000.000

Project Description
Ankara - Sivas Railway route is a part of the railway network from west border to east border of

countries. Moreover, this line is located on the continuation of Pan-European 4. Corridor. With this
project, existing Ankara-Sivas Railway route’s length which is 602 km will be decreased to 461 km.
When Ankara-Sivas Railway Project is completed, travelling time between Ankara-Sivas will be
decreased from 12 hours to approximately 3 hours.

Project Description
The dualisation project is aimed at transforming the single-lane Bidbid-Sur carriageway into an all-
weather motorway. The scope of work for the first phase involves the construction of the 40km
stretch of the existing carriageway from Sarur in Samayil Wilayat to beyond Wadi al Aqq and some
adjoining roads. This segment represents Package 1-A of Section 1 of the dualisation project, which
will cover the entire 250 km length of the carriageway after completion. Moreover, five major wadi
bridges at higher elevations, as well as a number of smaller bridges and culverts, will be
constructed at key points along the existing carriageway stretch.

Batinah Expressway, about 275 km long and with
250 km link roads, starts from the end of Muscat
Highway. The alignment runs nearly parallel to

near the Oman – UAE border at Khatmat Malaha.

Project Description
The existing Erbil-Shaglawa-Mama-Jalka-Rewanduz-Hacıomran Highway, extending North-East from
the Capital city Erbil to Iranian border is one of the important routes of Kurdistan to Iran.
The existing road carries considerable traffic, including heavy and long vehicles and need to be
upgraded with alternate corridors to improve the horizontal and vertical geometry of the road.
It has been agreed by the Ministry of Construction and Housing to upgrade the existing route and

The scope of this study covers the works from the new Mama-Jalka Interchange up to Jundian.
This section applies to the execution of New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) in any type of rock.
This section does not deal with specific topics of rock classification. Excavation may be carried out by
drill and blast using pre-split or smooth blasting techniques or by road header or tunnel excavator.
The New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) is based on the principle to take utmost advantage of
the rock's capacity to support itself, by careful measures and deliberate guidance of the forces
during the readjustment process from the primary to the secondary state of stress, which takes
place in the surrounding of the excavation. By this way, local progressive loosening will be limited by
careful excavation methods and timely installation of the support elements and the rock mass will be
able to support itself. The supports elements are shotcrete, wiremesh, rock bolts and steel ribs.

Project Description
The Haybat Sultan Tunnel is designed to cross the Haybat Sultan Mountain and create a new corridor between the Erbil – Koya Highway, at existing Koisanjaq – Suleymaniye Road and existing Raniyah – Dukan / Suleymaniye road. Taking into consideration high volume of traffic on the existing road, the Ministry of Construction and Housing has decided to initiate a new corridor study and then design and construction of new
road. Botek is given the assignment, which includes the corridor study of various alignments and
selection and recommendation of the best suitable alignment to the Ministry and after the approval of the selected alignment, preparation of
Preliminary and Final Design and also Tender Documents of new Erbil Koya highway. The project starts after Kasnazan on Erbil – Koya Highway just after the dual carriageway ends. The project section is approximately 65 km and
existing Koya – Suleymaniye road after Koya city. Total length of the alignment is 59 km and has 1 major bridge, 67 culverts and 3 intersections. Design speed adopted is 120 km/hr, minimum horizontal curvature adopted on the alignment is R= 1000 m, maximum longitudinal grade is 6%
which is used once in a critical location. This slope
can be decreased after the detail survey. The road will be dual carriageway 2*2 with a 7 m median and 3.75 lane widths.

Project Description
The European Investment Bank has
provided a fund for the Government of
Turkey, a portion of which is to be utilized in
the reconstruction of the urban roads in
Düzce, Çilimli, Gölyaka, Cumayeri, Kaynaşlı,
Gümüşova, Yığılca, Beyköy, Konuralp,
Boğaziçi and Akçakoca which have been
damaged during the 1999 earthquake. The
total length of roads to be reconstructed is
approximately 100 km.
The reconstruction of the roads will begin with
the excavation to the necessary depth. This
depth will be determined such that it will
accommodate the new pavement thickness,
consisting of sub-base, binder course and
wearing course. In case the soil at the bottom
of excavation is found to be unsuitable on
which to construct the pavement, then an
additional excavation is to be performed and
the excavated material is to be replaced with
such material whose properties are suitable
and allows the construction of the pavement.
This project is executed according to the
FIDIC Red Book.

Motorway is the part of Trans-European
Motorway (TEM) connecting western Anatolia
to the southern Anatolia starting from Ankara.

long, 3-lane Motorway comprises earthworks,
structures, bridges and viaducts, tunnels,
administrative and service buildings, toll plaza,
road pavement, security, traffic and secondary
works, for the Ankara – Pozantı Motorway .

Project Description

interchanges that connect Hani, Lice, Silvan, Genç and some other small towns and villages to
the main state highway network.

Project Description

Project Description
The project included preparation of preliminary and
final design of (2x2) state highway approximately
27 km long. The design work has been based on
upgrading the highway standards at those sections
of the existing Ceyhan – Yumurtalık State Highway
which lies south of Turkey. In addition to highway
design sections, BOTEK also made improvements
to the existing sections on the horizontal and
vertical geometric standards.

Project Description
Pozantı – Tarsus – Mersin Motorway is the major and
comprehensive part of the Trans-European Motorway
which is located at the Mediterranean region of
Turkey and it is also one of the most important
roads which connect Middle East, South and South
Eastern Anatolia. This motorway contributes great
amounts to development and improvement of these
mostly agricultural region and exportation of their
production. For this reason, during the feasibility
studies and planning stage, these vital subjects have
taken into consideration for the economy, tourism
and transportation sectors of Turkey.
In the scope of this project, Botek has also made an
urban planning for Mersin city which has one of the
most active and significant harbours in Turkey.
Within the planning project, approximately 40 km
long city roads and their motorway connections were
designed and supervised including all drainage
works, settlement and structure plans, landscape
works, earthworks and traffic census and study.
In addition, Botek has provided supervision services
for 700,000 m2 of park area which is known as the
most significant and extensive projects one in
Turkey. It comprises administrative buildings, public
buildings, parks, restaurants, shops, petrol stations,
toilets and all electrical and mechanical installations
related with these facilities.
Supervision Services of this Trans-European
Motorway (TEM) project have been carried
out in three stages:
1.Pozantı – Tarsus Motorway, Section I. (15.266 km)
This Motorway Section starts at Tekir Hill of
Pozantı and ends at Çamalan region. At this
section, a part of road infrastructure and
some of the structures have previously been
constructed by (GDH), General Directorate
of Highways.
2.Pozantı – Tarsus Motorway, Section II, (30.492 km)
The motorway which is constructed between
Pozantı and Tarsus continues as TAG
Motorway in Adana – Gaziantep direction
towards East and, as Çukurova Motorway in
Mersin-Çeşmeli direction towards West.
3.Tarsus Separation, Mersin Motorway
(103.00 km)
Besides motorway works, Botek was also responsible for following activities:

Project Description
The Orhangazi-Bursa Section is the northward section
of the Bursa Peripheral Highway which forms a part of
the İstanbul – Bursa – Balıkesir – İzmir Motorway. This
dual-three lane motorway was 34 km. long and forms
part of the İzmit Bay Crossing and Motorway which is
planned to be expanded in the future.
Izmit and Gemlik Bays have great dual importance with
respect to trade and industry. In addition to this, the
lands on the route of Motorway are very fertile so
agriculture and farming are well developed in these
regions. Therefore Botek has taken all of these
important factors and conditions into consideration and
design the motorway for future traffic flow and
forthcoming necessity. Botek has also determined the
conditions in order to protect the nature, agriculture
and structures in the vicinity of the motorway from
harmful effects of all sorts of materials used against
icing on the surface of the motorway and on the
structures and established systematic solutions for the
installations and structures to be used for prevention
and purification, and examined the design outlines of
the motorway, connection and frontage roads and
roadside installations from the viewpoint of harmony
with nature and ensured the conformity of the
motorway with its surroundings.
All design and engineering works are made
completely according to “TEM Standards and
Recommended Practice” which is published
by UNECE (United Nations Economic
Commission for Europe)

Project Description
The project, the Second Suspension Bridge
constructed in the Bosphorus Region, improves
the highway connection among the continents;
Asia Europe. The project consists of 1 suspension
bridge with 2x4 lanes and sidewalks, and a total
of 77.1 km peripheral motorway with viaducts
and interchanges. Botek had been associated
with Freeman Fox & Partners, London on the
project, which is one of the most elegant,
streamlined transportation structures to mark the
Bosphorus Region.
For the original structure, Botek prepared the
preliminary feasibility report, all preliminary
works, final design of all highways and connecting
roads and interchanges as well as construction
supervision. The project also included approaches
with complex interchanges to connecting express
highways and local streets, service buildings,
garages and toll plazas with complete toll facilities
and related equipment.

This motorway is a part of the TEM
Motorway. TEM (Trans-European North-South
Motorway) is a motorway network which
connects the Baltic, Adriatic, Aegean and
Black Seas and it has the total planned length
amounting to 23797 km, out of which 7021
km are currently in operation.

Project Description
This project consists of preliminary and final
design, and construction supervision of 2000 –
Single unit family homes all infrastructure
requirements for 550 Acres, approximately
2,400,000 m².
The Zekeriyaköy Houses, built on 550 acres of
Black Sea Cost and consisting of 2000 Single
unit villas. The project also consists of
Dwellings, Bazaars, Shopping Centers,
Hypermarkets, Cafes, Taverns, Common and
Personal Parking Areas, and Administrative
Buildings. The Contractor is Garanti- Koza Co.
All requirements and features like car parks,
common spaces, generators, fire and
domestic water tanks e.g. for today’s
modern living exist in Zekeriyaköy Houses in
the lovely green nature.
All kinds of heat and water insulation
techniques were used in the buildings, the
main entrances and stairs of which are of
granite. Acrylic-based imported paint was
applied on the faces. Very simple but good
quality materials were used inside the villas
and buildings. A parking lot is available for
common use; and a surrounding wall was
built to ensure security.

Zekeriyaköy Houses are constructed on such a
geological zone of Istanbul which has a minimum
earthquake risk. All necessary soil tests have been
performed and the structures rest on raft
foundations. The load-bearing structural frame has
been calculated according to the parameters stated
in the “Regulations Regarding Structures to Be
Constructed in Disaster Zones” which came into
force on 01.01.1998. The seismic and structural
characteristics of the zone and the building have
also be taken into consideration ensuring the
resistance and rigidity factors and with the quality
of the concrete cast during the construction stage,
the safety level which is foreseen in the above
mentioned regulation is consequently exceeded.

Project Description
Kavala Sabancı - Bebek Eliyeşil Villas Project
are distinguished residential complexes in
Turkey. Complexes consist of 14 private villas
in Eliyeşil and 76 villas in Sabancı. Eliyeşil
with its individual gardens are built on a hill
among century old trees overlooking.
Eliyesil villas have their façade clad with
travertine panels and solid hardwood
elements. Copper roofs have “Cihannuma”s
(small rooms to watch neighboring landscape)
which are reminiscent of the Ottoman
architecture.
The total construction area of the project
which was designed by Arch. Erkut Sahinbas,
was 6,156 m2

ADANA YESILOBA RACECOURSE
Adana Yeşiloba Racecourse is
located on Adana – Mersin intercity highway and is 12 km far from the city center. It is established on 666.000 square meters area in Yeşiloba district.
The races which started in 1962 near the airport, moved its today’s location in a short time. Inside the racecourse there is a dirt track of 1800 meters long and 25 meters
wide, later in 1996 the new turf track of 1600 meters long is constructed and is put into service in 1998 spring. A training track of 1400 meters long and 15 meters wide is put into service in 2000 autumn. There are totally 3 tracks. With the 3 floored modern grandstand building of 3000 people capacity which is completed in
January 1999 there are 2 grandstand buildings, 1 honour grandstand, 5 restaurants (one of them is inside a garden, others are in the pensions area, the rest is in the grandstand buildings), various buffets, one children park, one haflinger paddock, sitting places inside the gren areas that exceeds 10.000 square meters. The racing fans and people from public have the opportunity of spending time enjoyable, resting and entertaining.
There are 5 pony stables and 4 ponies. There are oat store and farrier building inside the racecourse. There are 1260 boxes stables and a modern racehorse hospital with an operating room in the
pensions area. Also inside this area there is a mosque, 3 convenience stores, a barber, harness maker and restaurants fort he service of the grooms.
There are 2 pools for watering the tracks, 1 water store of 600 tons, 3 water wells. There are two 250 KVA, two 400 KVA an done 630 KVA totally six transformers, also there are generators of 208 KVA, 425 KVA and 50 KVA and there are two 20 KVA an done 10 KVA continuous power supply units which support the ordinary power.

İzmir Şirinyer Racecourse is inside the borders of İzmir’s Buca district. It is 15 kilometers away from Adnan Menderes Airport and it has borders to İzmir – Aydın Railway from the west side. The racecourse is established on 323.674 square meters. Inside 155.440 square meters area, there are 1281 boxes, a horse hospital, car park with a capacity of 100 cars, walking paddocks, totally it has 479.114 square meters area.
Inside the racecourse area there are a dirt track of 1756 meters long, turf track of 1572 meters long, dirt training track of 1345 meters long, 2 grandstand buildings, 2 restaurants, 2 garden

IZMIT TRAINING CENTER Izmit training center, which is established on 422.000
square meters land inside the Sarımeşe district, is the first training center owned by The Jockey Club of Turkey. It is located between Istanbul, Bursa and Ankara which is the optimum choice because of the distance from racecourses. The benefits of this facility include the ability to
provide all kind of services that host approximately 600 horses yearly for The Jockey Club of Turkey and private owners. Technical structuring of facility:

Project Description
The purpose of this subcontract is to
complete engineering, complete the excavation performed by others, prepare the subgrade, and construct the foundations
and the Superstructure for the Central Reference Laboratory (CRL) building. Also, review and complete the remaining engineering for the Potable Water Storage
Tanks located west of the CRL Building. Design and Furnish all Underground Utilities in Under slab and outside the Building. Design and Furnish Underground Fuel Oil Tank. Upon construction of the foundations and Superstructure, and the water tanks,
the buildings will be completed and finished for operation by others.
Project Location
The CRL site is located in the eastern part of Tbilisi approximately three (3) kilometers form the
airport, and approximately eighteen (18) kilometers from the Tbilisi Freedom Square, in
Alekseevka settlement, within the property owned by the Ministry of Defense (MOD). The site is fairly flat and the elevations range between 510 meters to 517 meters above the sea level.

meters per year, it is one of the outstanding factories both in Europe and Middle East
