Edith L. Tiempo (born April 22, 1919
in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya), poet, fictionwriter, teacher and literary critic. She is one ofthe finest Filipino Writers in English whoseworks are characterized by a remarkablefusion of style and substance, of craftsmanshipand insight. Her poems are intricate verbaltransfigurations of significant experiences asrevealed, in two of her much anthologizedpieces, "Lament for the LittlestFellow" and "Bonsai." As fictionist, Tiempo is asmorally profound. Her language has been
marked as "descriptive but unburdened byscrupulous detailing." She is an influentialtradition in Philippine literature in English.She was conferred the National ArtistAward for Literature in 1999.
