Brookbankwasoriginallyafarmcottageofsimpleconstruction.Builtin1730thefrontofthehousehas

traditionalironstonewallstowardoffevilspirits.

Itwasonlyupgradedformiddleclassresidencewiththecomingoftherailwaysin1860s.Theformersfroma

nearbyrailwaybridgewereusedtoextendthebackofthehousemakingforahigharchedceilingwhichisan

unusualconstructionandfeature.Tohelpkeeptheheatinthehouse,thebackwallhaslargetapestryhooks

placeduphigh.

Thetwocolourfulstainedglassbaywindowsinthemainroomandthecolouredarchwindowonthestairs

wereaddedatthistimetoo.ThetwodownstairsfireplacesaredocumentedascomingfromtheCarltonHotel

andwereaddedlateinthe19thcentury.

Thehousewasdividedintotworesidenciesinthe1960’sandmostoftheoriginalfeatureswereretained.

BrookbankisgradeIIlistedforitshistoricandartisticinterest.

WillandMelanierecentlyextendedthekitchenatthebackofthehouseandaddedarefurbishedsteel

windowandputinareinforcedglassfloorbeneaththearchwindowtobringinsomemorelight.
