Lorraine Serra is an award-winning graphic design professional and educator with

a solid, diverse background in agency and corporate art direction and design,

business management, and digital technology. In whatever she does, she thinks

strategically, designs exceptionally and manages thoughtfully.

Lorraine brings over 30 years of art and design experience to her two compa-

nies, Chiaro Design Inc. and its new division, PortfolioPrep. Currently, she

divides her time between them.

Chiaro Design is a multi-disciplinary firm that provides comprehensive creative

and design services for its clients. The company excels in creating communica-

tions that synthesize all the elements of design to a compelling and visually strik-

ing result. Their blend of professional skill and unparalleled creativity has enabled

a diverse portfolio of clients to achieve their business objectives. Since its found-

ing, the firm has been the recipient of several awards and their work has been

featured in numerous publications about graphic design.

Founded in 1990, Chiaro Design has broad experience with a full range of

creative projects, from complete corporate identity and graphic systems to the

development of complex programs of integrated marketing materials; the cre-

ation of a full array of corporate shareholder and employee communications

and to the design and information architecture of interactive design projects,

websites and intranets.

In the process of owning and operating a graphic design firm plus an accessory

design business, Lorraine has developed an eye for talent, an appreciation of the

hurdles artists face, and an understanding of a market need to help students put

their best foot forward. Lorraine was an Adjunct Professor at the Fashion

Institute of Technology (New York) for nearly a decade, where she reviewed and

critiqued the portfolios and work of hundreds of students. She has also lectured

and given workshops for the American Crafts Council and at several museums,

arts organizzations and colleges. A strong desire to combine her interests, skills

and experience led to the launch of PortfolioPrep (http:portfolioprep.net), a

unique service that provides assistance to high school students pursuing the

study of visual art at the college level.

With a BS in Visual Arts from SUNY Purchase, and an MA in Graphic Design

from Savannah College of Art & Design, Lorraine’s education and accolades

speak for themselves. She launched PortfolioPrep in 2009, and is currently

receiving extended certification in College Counseling at UCLA. She is a member

of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Connecticut Art Director’s Club,

and the Graphic Artists Guild. In addition, she is a member of the National

Association for College Admissions Counseling, the New England Association

for College Admissions Counseling, and the National Association of Schools of

Art & Design.
