WHAT’S HAPPENING AT ADART
BEYOND THE INKWINTER 2013, ISSUE NO.2During my junior and senior year of college, I lived with three of my
dearest friends— Jennifer, Amy and Maddie. The four of us shared a love of holidays and celebrations. As holidays like Halloween, Easter and Cinco de Mayo approached, we would eagerly adorn our apartment in festive decorations. The holiday we loved to celebrate most of all was Christmas.
We would begin our Christmas preparation just before Thanksgiving break, since Christmas break was only a few weeks later. Jennifer and Amy would decorate the tree while Maddie and I hung enough lights to illuminate a small city. Upon our return from Thanksgiving break, we wore Santa hats and silly pajama onesies and listened to hours of Sounds of the Season Christmas music. As Christmas break drew closer, we exchanged presents and ate our weight in Christmas cookies. It was a time the four of us cherished and truly looked forward to.
It is AdArt’s wish that this issue of Beyond the Ink not only inspires you, but reminds you of fond memories of holiday celebrations with beloved friends and family. As you browse through the pages, imagine your retail environments stirring your customers’ memories of their own joyful holiday stories.

COLORSIt’s time to go beyond and color your holiday environments in a different way. So our Creative Team has researched and compiled the hottest colors for winter 2013.
Blue Poetics is comprised of rich blues with purple kissed hues. This palette is inspired by the need for calm and hope amidst our busy, chaotic lives.
Tropical spring colors have transitioned into richer tones for winter designs. This palette reflects brightness among duller winter colors and looks forward to the upcoming spring season.

This winter teal has been adapted for a richer, more season-appropriate shade. This color palette pulls inspiration from the 1970’s and can be paired with brown or similar shades of green and blue.
This Christmas, metallic colors make a bold statement. Silver, a metallic often popular during the holidays, will take a back seat to shades of gold and pewter.
White is slowly breaking away from its summer exclusivity and adapting to fall and winter. This palette serves as a refreshing neutral to winter designs.

From simple diecut and folded paper to gluing oversized, painted jingle bells to fabric hoops, wreaths are easy to display and hang in different formations. They are the perfect element to symbolize this time of year.

TEAL ME SOMETHING
These holiday elements play into a peacock-inspired color palette from the Precious Jungle holiday trend. Colors like gold, winter teal and regal blue give a luxurious, colorful feel.
Need a new take on the traditional Christmas tree? Display colorful hangers hooked to pegboard and add garland and ornaments for decoration. The pegboard is the perfect backer panel for creating displays. Whether it’s using our diecut hangers to make a tree or displaying actual merchandise, pegboard makes it easy for stores to execute.
THE INSPIRATIONPrecious Jungle combines exotic plants and animals with shimmering diversity, cool regal tones and gold highlights. Colors include deep blues and greens as well as a winter teal. Metallic yarns complement materials like velvet, cloqué and brocade. Gems, pearls and crystals will provide shimmering accents.

FIREPLACE
Use this fireplace scene to tell the story of a family getting cozy by the fireplace on Christmas Eve. Customers can imagine themselves in their own home, drinking hot chocolate and enjoying time with their family before Santa comes to fill their stockings.
Using materials and inks that shine and reflect, juxtaposed with textures of sand and craquelée glaze ink, creates a display that customers will be drawn to touch and feel.
THE INSPIRATIONGlowing Desert’s main focus is contrasting high gloss, glittery and shimmery elements with rough, sandy, dull backgrounds. Elements look as though they themselves came from the desert. Ceramics, wood and velour are materials utilized for this theme. Craquelée glaze is a style used to reiterate the desert theme.

to create a peek-a-boo surprise. Our design (shown) uses copper film—both textured and brushed—mounted to corrugate. The diecut opening is a separate piece adhered to the face of the box. These boxes can stack or hang with eye hooks, and allow for propping merchandise within the box, giving consumers a sneak peak at the latest fashion trend.

WINTER WONDERLAND
It’s looking a lot like a white winter wonderland with this window display. Christmas trees, snowflakes and shadowboxes fill this whimsical window. Shades of winter white give a snow-inspired feel while lace elements add softness. The center tree is constructed from two pieces, each with a slit at the top or bottom. The two pieces then slide together to form the tree. The smaller outside trees each have a slit in the middle to attach to the branches of the center tree.
THE INSPIRATIONWhite is becoming more and more adapted for winter through softer, more subtle shades. Winter white and tone-on-tones are popular color trends among designers this season. These concepts were inspired by the winter white trend and snowy winter days.

The holiday season would not be complete without lights and a Christmas tree. The two trees shown in this spread use unconventional materials to create the shape of a tree.
The pegboard Charlie Brown tree has many options for changing it during the holiday season. Wrap it with lights, add hooks to the pegboard to display products or gift cards, or hang merchandise directly off of the tree.
THE INSPIRATIONFantasy Forest is re-interpreting traditional Christmas colors and designs with an adult, humorous and modern approach. This theme features print motifs, animal figures and decorative crystals. Colorful lace, braids and other trims contrast and decorate wool, felt and burlap materials. Other natural materials such as wood, pine cones and acorns are painted and utilized.
