COLUMBUS - Two outstandingCarrollton High School track ca-reers came to an end last weekendat the annual OHSAA State Trackand Field Championships at JesseOwens Memorial Stadium inColumbus.

Seniors April Sisk and KelseyCogan represented Carrollton intwo events each.

In her final day of competition,Sisk earned All-Ohio honors byplacing sixth in the shot put. Hersecond throw of 40’6.25” in the pre-liminaries earned her a spot on thepodium.

“It was a lot of fun and I didmuch better than yesterday (Fri-day),” Sisk said. “I didn’t do well andI wanted to do better today.”

Sisk will attend West VirginiaWesleyan College in Buckhannonon a track scholarship.

The discus had been Sisk’s bestevent for most of the season, butFriday it wasn’t as she threw just114’ 8” and didn’t qualify for the fi-nals.

She leaves Carrollton as theschool record holder in the discus.

For Cogan, it was a disappointingtwo days. On Saturday, she ran inthe 3,200-meter run where she

placed 16th with a time of12:07,97.

“It was not a good race. If I wantto run in college I am going to haveto do better than that,” she said.Cogan will run cross country andindoor and outdoor track for Bowl-ing Green University beginning thisfall.

Cogan was also a member of the3,200-meter relay team of sopho-mores Naomi Young, Taylar Bennettand Lindsay Schandel that placed15th with a time of 10:16.45.

Akron St. Vincent, St. Mary wonthe girls team championship for thesecond straight year with 55 pointsand Columbus Eastmoor Academywas second with 46 points.

In the boys portion, Carrolltonsophomore hurdler Lynk Tranterran in the 110 high hurdles.

Tranter ran a 15.66 in the pre-liminaries and failed to make it intoSaturday’s finals.

Tranter was disappointed, butknows what it will take to get backnext year.

“I got off to a bad start,” he said,“This was a good experience. I amgoing to work harder so I can getback here next year.”

Dayton Dunbar won the teamtitle with 49 points and Akron St.Vincent, St. Mary followed in aclose second with 46 points.

COLUMBUS - It was a busytwo days for Minerva senior KyleCrum.

Crum, a Kent State Universityfootball recruit, ran in four eventsat the state’s top track and fieldmeet and earned two medals forhis efforts.

“It’s been long,” Crum said,“But worth it. “

Crum finished in eighth placein the 200-meter dash with atime of 22.20 and was a memberof the 400-meter relay team ofjunior Jacob Riley, senior AdamHarper and junior CoreySchaffner that placed sixth witha time of 43.36.

Crum finished 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.20 andtied for 14th in the long jump with ajump of 20’ 0.25”

The 3,200-meter relay team ofjunior Lucas Nezbeth, senior SethGoshorn, junior Quade Zeedrichand senior Adam Anderson ran a8:26.57 to place 13th.

The 1,600-meter relay team ofHarper, Goshorn, Zeedrich and An-derson finished in 16th place with atime of 3:45.70.

Dayton Dunbar won the team titlewith 49 points and Akron St. Vin-cent, St. Mary was a close secondwith 46 points.

On the girls side, the Lions wererepresented by defending statechampion in the 800-meter run,junior Kaele Lightfoot.

Lightfoot started strong, but inthe end fell to fifth place in the800 with a time of 2:15.43, herbest of the season.

“I am really disappointed,”Lightfoot said. “I did not run well.This will motivate me to trainharder for next year.”

Akron St. Vincent, St. Marywon the girls team championshipwith 55 points and ColumbusEastmoor Academy was secondwith 46 points.

For the first time in a numberof years, the Malvern Lady Hor-nets had a representative at thestate meet in Division III.

Junior Dolly Rinehart com-peted in the long jump. She fin-ished 10th overall with a jump of16’ 1.75”.

Sisk places sixth at state meet in shot

COLUMBUS - For Andrew Mil-hoan of Sandy Valley it was just anamazing weekend.

The Cardinals’ senior won the

Division II state championship inthe long jump last Friday and fol-lowed that performance by earningAll-Ohio with a fifth place finish inthe 110 high hurdles on Saturdayat Jesse Owens Memorial Stadiumin Columbus.

“This has been an amazingweekend,” said Milhoan, “I won thelong jump yesterday, finished fifthtoday and I graduate tomorrow.What more could you ask for?”

Milhoan was just hoping to get amedal. He never thought aboutgold.

Milhoan went out andjumped 22’ 11.5” to earn the topspot on the podium.

“I thought I could make the top10 coming out of the regional,” saidMilhoan, who will be attendingMount Union University in the fall.“I was just hoping to get to the fi-nals and a place on the podium. Ididn’t think I would win.”

Milhoan credited a rain delay fol-lowing the preliminaries on Fridayfor helping him.

“I think I may have over warmedup,” he said. “It helped me get a lit-tle rest.”

On Saturday in the hurdles, heran a 14.79 to place fifth.

“I am happy with that,” he said.“It has been some weekend.”

To get to the finals, he had toqualify on Friday where he ran a14.993.

The top nine qualifiers made thefinals and the top eight earned All-Ohio and a place on the podium.

Also representing the Cardinalswas junior Ben Lehotay in the3,200-meter run. Lehotay ran atime of 10.08 to place 14th.

The Lady Cardinals were not tobe outdone at the state meet. Sen-ior Briana Schubert jumped herway to a spot on the podium andAll-Ohio honors by placing sixth inthe long jump at 16’ 7”.
