PRINCIPAL’S REPORT BER UPDATE
Yesterday Lynne Brenner, Jodie
Norton (school council president),
and I met with Julie Alliston, DEECD
BER Manager, and Stephen Lyon,
Manager Stakeholders Relations BER
to discuss options for moving
forward with our BER project in
totality.
The meeting was productive with the
following outcomes, subject to
school council ratification at
Monday‘s meeting:
(1) Notwithstanding that we remain
disappointed with the balance of
funds available for our companion
project, we have accepted the
amount of $604,063 offered by the
DEECD.
(2) We have selected Option 1:
School-led project for our
companion project. This in effect
means that we select our own
project manager/architect to deliver
the project within budget, scope and
delivery schedules. The DEECD have
agreed to this choice.
(3) We will receive additional funds
of $50,000 to incorporate into our
companion project
from the Federal
Government as an
acknowledgement
of meet the cost of
―irreconcilable issues‖.
School council and staff will now
consider the list of ―wants‖ for our
refurbishment project, valued in total
at $654,063 that we will in due
course present to our project
manager/architect (to be selected) to
use as the basis for developing a
master plan.
This outcome, in the circumstances,
is a welcome improvement on what
we were led to believe we would
receive for much of the past two
years.
SINGAPORE TRIP
Another first – our first team of
students and staff will be heading off
to Singapore on Saturday for a week.
This is really exciting and I am certain
that they will have the time of their
lives over there as guests of
Tampines Primary School.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS (FAQ’s)
Q. Why do I barrack for
Collingwood?
A. This question is usually raised by
non-Collingwood supporters! When
I was a youngster at Nilma Primary
School, Collingwood won the 1958
Grand Final. I wanted to be liked by
the senior boys at the school, several
of whom were Collingwood
supporters. On the Monday after the
Grand Final I proudly stated that I
was a Collingwood supporter. One
of the grade 6 boys asked me, ―Since
when?‖ I replied, ―Since Saturday‖.
They weren‘t overly impressed, but
did embrace me as a new magpie. I
was pleased, but little did I know that
I was to pay a big price for my
opportunism – 32 years and lots of
close calls!
VALE
Last weekend Michael Egan tragically
passed away. Our deepest
sympathies are extended to Jennie
Tranter, his wife, and Hannah and
Blake Egan, his children. Jennie is a
member of our office administration
team and Hannah and Blake are
students at our school.
On a personal level, I have lost a
truly wonderful stepson-in-law. We
all miss you so much Michael.

PREP ENROLMENTS FOR
2012 Thank you to our families with
Prep students for 2012 who have
contacted the office for enrolment
forms. At this
stage we have
confirmed 40
enrolments for
Prep next year,
with this
number
growing daily. Many of these
children are from our existing
families. For our planning
purposes it is beneficial for us to
know our projected prep
enrolment well in advance. We
also need to be aware of students
with special needs who may
require submissions for extra
support at school. Families with
queries regarding this matter are
encouraged to make contact with
us to discuss the options available
to provide support.
If you know of any families with
children starting school in 2012
who wish to enrol at Berwick
Lodge we would appreciate it if
you could ask them to contact the
school administration in order to
organise a tour of the school.
SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS - COLES After the success last year of our
involvement in the Coles Sports
for Schools Program, we have
again registered our school to
participate.
Through this
program we
earn credits
towards
purchasing additional sports
equipment for our school. Last
year we collected over 94 000
points and earned some fabulous
sports equipment.
From Friday 29th July until Tuesday
18th October, for every $10 spent
at Coles or Bi-Lo, customers will
earn a Coles Sports for Schools
voucher worth 1 point (given at
the check-out) Students collect
these vouchers from family,
friends and neighbours and drop
them into the voucher collection
box. Early in November these
vouchers will be able to be
redeemed for new sporting
equipment. Watch out for
posters advertising this incentive
program and remember to collect
your vouchers. The PFA will be
counting these vouchers for us
and keeping us informed of our
progress.
WOOLWORTHS EARN
AND LEARN PROGRAM
We encourage all families to
continue to send along their
receipts from purchases made at
Woolworths to
add to our tally
of points for the
Earn and Learn
incentive
program. The 16
digit code required to enter points
is located at the bottom of the
receipt together with an indication
of how many points you have
earned from your purchase. It is
this bottom section of the receipt
that is required. Thank you again
to the PFA who have volunteered
to enter these details on behalf of
our school. This is a great
opportunity for the school to
acquire additional educational
resources for our students at no
direct cost to the schools or
families.
CEREBRAL PALSY
SUPPORT GROUP We have recently received
information about a website which
has been designed to support
carers of children with Cerebral
Palsy and other disabilities. The
website was created by a mother
of a child with Cerebral Palsy and
provides information about
support services, funding,
programs, recreation, respite
options, schools, organisations,
equipment suppliers and more.
The aim of the website is to
inform carers of support and
services for their additional needs
child, to invite carers to share
their personal journey and to
introduce carers to other
families in similar situations.
