COVID-19 Compliance
2
> As part of the Federal government’s Coronavirus Guidance for America, transportation infrastructure is considered an “Essential Critical Infrastructure.”
> Additionally, transit capital projects are not subject to the State - of California’s Stay at Home order, therefore Metro construction projects continue to progress.
Updated personal protective equipment (PPE)
COVID-19 Compliance
3
> Construction activities continue to progress on all active Metro projects, including the Crenshaw/LAX, Purple Line Extension and Regional Connector Transit Projects.
> Due to reduced traffic conditions during the Stay at Home orders, local jurisdictions are allowing the Agency to work through “peak hours” on a case by case basis.
> Metro’s contractors are following safety precautions during the pandemic, including implementing social distancing when applicable and the use of masks and other PPE.

Oil Well Investigation and Discovery
at Beverly Hills High School (BHHS)
43
Oil Well Investigation and Research
During community outreach meetings in 2018, we outlined plans for investigating underground wells at the BHHS. As part of the EIS/EIR phase, the Project Team:
Reviewed historic maps and photographs,
Researched geological data bases,
Obtained historic well records and consulted petroleum industry experts
44
45
Potential for Encountering Abandoned Oil Wells during Tunneling
What has been done?
Other historic maps with oil well locations have been obtained and evaluated.
The subway has been aligned to avoid the documented oil well locations.
Magnetometer surveys have been performed along the alignment to screen for the presence of oil well casing

Oil Well Investigation
46
Potential for Encountering Abandoned Oil Wells During Tunneling
What will happen if a well is found along the alignment?
The alignment could be slightly adjusted to avoid the well, or
Supplemental cement plugs could be installed within the well casing beneath the tunnel alignment and the well casing at, and above, the tunnel alignment
The well will be removed with CalGEM’s oversight
47
Potential for Encountering Abandoned Oil Wells During Tunneling
What other precautionary measures did Metro take?
In late 2019, additional magnetometer surveys were performed along the subway tunnel alignment beneath the BHHS
The surveys were conducted using horizontal direction drilling (HDD) equipment
48
Oil Well Investigation Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Concept
NOTE: Contractor chose to drill HDD hole from their tunnel access shaft
49
Oil Well Investigation and Research
Discovered three underground anomalies on BHHS Property
Two of the anomalies are confirmed to be wells in the path of the second TBM
In March 2020, two of the anomalies were confirmed to be oil wells
50
Well Magnetometer SurveyThree Anomalies
51
Facts About the Located Oil Wells
The recently discovered “legacy” oil wells are more than 100 years old
These previously-abandoned wells were found more than 200 feet from where they were depicted on existing maps
Wells need to be re-abandoned because they do not meet current CalGEM standards
52
53
Potential for Encountering Abandoned Oil Wells During Tunneling
Does the project create significant health or safety risks at BHHS associated with the presence of abandoned oil wells?
NO
Next Steps
Work plan will be created with and approved by CalGEMS
BHUSD contractor will perform work on campus
Work hours will be in alignment with ongoing well abandonment on campus
Work does not fall under current MOA
Work on Metro Century City staging yard will continue 24/7
