Role and responsibilities of a teachers’ aide

Work with the teacherAs a support

Care for students and help them in the areas of social, emotional and spiritual development

Guide them in character development

Help them with academic work, (emphasis on literacy and mathematics), under the direction of the class teacher

Be a supportWork with individual students one-on-one

Supervise a group while the teacher works intensively with another group

Alert the teacher to any problems the students may be having

Be a servantMark 10:42-45

42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.

43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,

44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

What does it mean to be a servant?

To be a servant…Be willing to fulfill the demands placed upon you

Be willing not to be thanked

Do more than our duty

Go the extra mile

Matt 5:41-42:  And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Qualifications of a teacher…

In a school that honours God

Personal Christian Lifelove God with heart, soul, mind, and

strength, through a personal relationship to Jesus Christ. Mark 12; 30

to follow Jesus Christ as Lord

to know that they are called to teaching as a vocation

live a life worthy of the calling

love one’s neighbour as oneself, Mark 12:31

have a freedom to move in and with the Holy Spirit and hear God’s voice

be a servant

be willing to witness and fulfill the Great Commission

Beliefsbelieve that all of creation, both the

visible and invisible, are held together by the powerful Word of God. Heb 1:2-3; Col 1:17

believe in a literal six-day creation, and therefore a young earth.

believe that it is our responsibility to care for the creation

believe that Christ has come to redeem our souls and to be Lord of the whole universe, (Col 1:20).

set goals, devise plans, evaluate levels of student achievement.

Specific responsibilitiesPrepare the classroom for planned activities as

directed by the teacher, e.g. setting out equipment

Help students with their work, particularly those students who are having difficulty

Assist a group of students in a specific project, while the teacher works with the rest of the class

Prepare learning aids such as wall charts, flashcards, home-made books

Assist with classroom displays and general tidiness of the classroom

Uphold standards of conduct established by the class teacher

Assist with other activities and tasks around the school, such as monitoring the playground, organizing student lunches, organizing clean up

Contribute in a major way to the positive tone and unity of the entire school

God does not call us because we are qualified,

but qualifies us when we respond to His call.
