New Delhi: In a move tocheck multiple driving li-cences under one name, theCentre will ask states tomake Aadhaar identifica-tion necessary for a new li-cence as well as for thoseseeking renewal.

This is expected to preventthe issuance of multiple li-cences, means adopted to beatthe suspension of licence fortraffic/criminal offences orfor fake identity.

The Aadhaar number’sbiometrics details will helpprevent such practices. Thenew regime is expected tokick off from October thisyear, official sources said.

Bengaluru: The BBMP saidon Saturday that it wouldamend building bylaws toenable the civic body keep theground floor during theconstruction of a ground-

plus-four (or more) floor buil-ding in its name till the ownersatisfies all building norms.

The proposal is part of its2017-18 budget presented onSaturday. If you are construc-ting a ground-floor-plus-four-floor building or above, theground floor shall be registe-red to BBMP at a fee of Rs 100.The move is aimed at curbing

building bylaw violations.As per the proposal, the

ground floor will be releasedto the owner if she adheres tobuilding norms, along withthe occupancy certificate. “Ifthe property owner has viola-ted the building plan, the gro-und floor ownership will re-main with the BBMP,” said MK Gunashekar, chairman,

standing committee on finan-ce and taxation, BBMP, whopresented the budget.

Senior officials in theBBMP’s town planning wingsaid: “During 2016, there weremany building collapses in-cluding a major one in Bellan-dur. We found that buildingnorms violations were ram-pant. To arrest such illegal

constructions, we proposedan amendment to the buil-ding bylaws by linking buil-ding plan approval to issuan-ce of occupancy certificate.Since occupancy certificateis crucial for renting or lea-sing out any property, wewant to ensure that such acertificate is obtained only af-ter the building is built as perthe plan,” he added.

The BBMP in its budgetplans for town planning alsosaid that land acquisition forvarious government projectsin future will be done as perthe new Transfer of Develop-ment Rights (TDR) norms.

“Almost all ongoing pro-jects will be under the RealEstate Regulatory Authority(RERA). Any violation will belooked at from the RERA per-spective. Why bring this newlegislation?” asks J C Shar-ma, managing director, Sob-ha Developers.

New Delhi: The central go-vernment has accepted theSupreme Court proposalfor raising emoluments gi-ven to judges of the Supre-me Court and high courts,commensurate with the re-cent hike in pay for centralgovernment staff.

The Chief Justice of In-dia (CJI) is the highest-paidfunctionary in the judicia-ry with his current month-ly emoluments at Rs 1 lakh,excluding dearness andother allowances. Thismonthly pay is likely to beraised to Rs 2.8 lakh, in addi-tion to perks such as officialresidence, cars, staff and al-lowances as applicable.

A three-judge apex co-urt committee had given itsrecommendations to theUnion government a fewmonths ago with regard tosalary hikes for judges.

The recommendationswere submitted soon afterthe implementation of theSeventh Pay Commissionrecommendations for cen-tral employees last year.

Lucknow: The city of Na-wabs, known for its mouth-watering Awadhi delicacies,was forced to turn vegetar-ian on Saturday when over5,000 shops selling muttonand chicken went on strikeprotesting the Yogi govern-ment’s crackdown on unli-censed abattoirs and meatoutlets. Famous eateries ofLucknow like Tunday’s andMubeen’s too remainedshut. The stir may spreadwith Meat Murga Vyapar Ka-lyan Samiti (MMVKS), UPgiving a call for a statewidestrike from Sunday.
