Basosoft EUK Conc.
Chemical nature Fatty acid condensation product
Physical form Granules with a light beige colour
Storage stability When stored in original, tightly closed containers at temperatures between5 and 30 °C, Basosoft EUK Conc. has a shelf life of at least 24 months.Once a container has been opened to remove part of the contents, it mustbe tightly closed again and the remaining contents must be used up assoon as possible.
When exposed for some time to the action of heat (50 – 60 °C), the granules may stick together. It then takes longer to dissolve the product.
Properties
lonic nature Cationic
Product specification Tolerance limits for the properties tested are given in the Product Specification.
Solubility Recipe for dissolving Basosoft EUK Conc.:
10.0 parts by weight Basosoft EUK Conc.0.2 parts by weight acetic acid 60 %
89.8 parts by weight condensed or potable water at up to 7 ° Germanhardness (10 ° English)
Add Basosoft EUK Conc. in several portions to the water containing aceticacid, with stirring, and continue stirring until a homogeneous, lump-freesolution is obtained. Depending on the temperature used, dissolutiontakes 3 to 8 hours. The prepared solution should be filtered through a finesieve or a woven fabric before use.
Heating accelerates dissolution, but temperatures above 50 °C cause theformation of a highly viscous paste, which has to be stirred vigorously tomake it homogeneous. The hot paste must then be cooled, with constantstirring, to 30 °C. During the process, the product becomes liquid again attemperatures below 50 °C.
When large amounts of the products are required, it is advisable to prepare a 10-% stock solution of Basosoft EUK Conc.
Compatibility The solution of Basosoft EUK Conc. is not compatible with anionic products, e. g. optical brighteners.
If several products are to be mixed with one another, preliminary testsshould always be carried out to test their compatibility.
The process solutions have an acid reaction and they are stable at acid pHvalues to hard water of up to 40 ° German (50 ° English) hardness.
If finishing is carried out in dyebaths containing Glauber’s salt, BasosoftEUK Conc. should not be added until the dyeing process is concluded.
Application
Fields of application Basosoft EUK Conc. is a softening agent for all fibres and blends. It can and finishing effects be applied to loose stock, card sliver and tops as well as to yarn and
piecegoods by various methods, e.g. spraying, dipping, lick-roll, or padding.
Basosoft EUK Conc. produces a very soft, full handle.
Basosoft EUK Conc. reduces the build-up of electrostatic charges.

At curing temperatures above 150 °C, the degree of whiteness or theshade of pastel dyeings may suffer.
Basosoft EUK Conc. is applied by the padding process at room tempera-ture, and the liquor uptake is 60 – 90 %, depending on the type of goods. When long liquors are used, e. g. in circulating-liquor dyeing machines, werecommend a temperature of 40 – 60 °C in view of the better substantivity.

Comments Basosoft EUK Conc. is stable to shearing and free from paraffin wax andsilicon.
The rub and wet fastness of dyeings is retained in most cases. It is only in rare cases that these fastness properties are impaired, e. g. owing to the thermomigration of disperse dyes when the dyeing is fixed at high temperature.
The treatment baths should still have an acid reaction after the application, because Basosoft EUK Conc. – like all cationic softening agents – developsonly a slight softening effect in alkaline media.
In view of the many different influences exerted by the pretreatment, dye-ing/printing, and finishing and by the formulation of the finishing recipe onthe fastness properties and shade of the dyeings, the degree of whiteness, the strength properties, and possible white cracking after a wash, and alsoon the odour and handle, it is always advisable to carry out internal trials. This applies in particular to white goods and pastel dyeings.
