Burns

Staying safe from burns

● Hold the pan with the other hand● Never leave food on the stove

unattended● The stove and oven are off when not

in use● Let adults remove hot foods or liquids

from the oven or stove● Use hot pads when handling hot foods

or liquids● Do not play in the kitchen when

someone is cooking● No joking around near the stove

Poisoning

Staying safe from poison ● Read labels carefully● Put harmful substances in a

locked cabinet (i.e. cleaning chemicals and meds)

● Do not swallow any unknown liquids, powders or medicine

● Do not eat any berries or mushrooms

● Always say “No” to smoking, drugs and alcohol

Injuries

Staying away from injuries● Keep your shoe laced tied● Never run on stairs● Keep toys away from top,

bottom of stairs and on the floor

● Keep the rug neat● Keep clear of and away

from swings when they are in use

● Don’t climb up a slide when someone is sliding down. You’ll be eating their shoes!

● Not playing in the bathroom. It’s slippery!

Bleeding Heavily

Staying away from bleeding● Stay away from power tools such

as table saw, chain saw, etc.● Stay at a safe distance from power

tools or equipment if they are being used

● Do not play with firecrackers● Hold the knives, scissors and other

sharp objects when walking to others: the point down

● When handed over something sharp to someone, carefully give him the handle. Not the blade.

● Never running with sharp objects in your hands or mouth (i.e. forks, knives, needles, chopstick)

How to stop nosebleed

How do you prevent the nose from bleeding again?

● Discourage nose-blowing, picking, or rubbing, and any rough play.

● Try to keep your head higher than the level of your heart.

● Do not have your child lean back. This may cause blood to flow down the back of the throat, which tastes bad and may cause gagging, coughing, or vomiting.

How do you prevent the nose from bleeding again?

● Do not blow your nose or put anything into it. If you have to sneeze, open your mouth so that the air will escape out the mouth and not through the nose.

● Stay on a soft, cool diet. No hot liquids for at least 24 hours.
