STARTUPWHEN YOU’RE YOUNG

About me

• Trung Huynh• RMIT Graduate 2009 – Bachelor of Commerce• Founder and project manager of Gohundred• Head of events and content at Launch

2 choices

• Get a job• Get an MBA / Master Degree

3rd choice

• To start a startup

Why?

• Relative advantages of young founders:1. Stamina2. Poverty3. Partners (co-founders)4. Ignorance

Stamina

• Long hours of work• Not as efficient as we'll be later

Poverty

• You can live cheaply• Less independent to outside funding• Room to recover from mistakes

Partners

• Scarcest ingredient in startups: co-founders

• Popular question: “where can I find my co-founder?”

• Best place to meet them is school. Eg: Google, Yahoo, Youtube and Microsoft

Ignorance

• Believe in things you don’t know about

• A situation that forces you to take side and make progress

• When you know nothing, you have to reinvent stuff for yourself

Words of wisdom

“All the best things that I did at Apple came from (a) not having money and (b) not having done it before, ever. Every single thing that we came out with that was really great, I'd never once done that thing in my life” – Steve Wozniak
