Lessons from the Father

“The Father desires to keep us from harm”. Our church has re-cently begun playing in a local church basketball league on a weekly basis. As you know, Clay absolutely loves playing “ball”. Often he watches the game & plays courtside at the gym. Many times you can catch him running around aimlessly just off the court. For those of you familiar with the game of basketball, you know the sideline is the wide line that primarily divides the playing area (court) from the spectator area (stands). Oftentimes, I’ll end up chasing Clay around the outside of the court, since he really enjoys running around while the game is going on. As I’m chasing him, I’m repeatedly telling him “Don’t cross the line” so that he knows not to run out on the court. With the ten men on the court play-ing a highly competitive game of basketball, Clay would likely get hurt if he crossed that line over onto the court. Clay at times will even test the boundaries, running towards the line or walking di-rectly on top of it. On a few occasions he’s even crossed the line, only to be quickly grabbed by me into the safety of my arms. In much the same way, our Heavenly Father has boundaries that are there to protect us. There is an imaginary line separating right-eousness from sin that God doesn’t want us to cross. God knows that whenever we cross that line, we’ll get hurt, yet when we do He is there to sweep us up in His arms, forgive us, & cleanse us from all unrighteousness. As you go throughout each day, seek to live righteously, & “Don’t cross the line.”

As we look for-ward to our new mission work in Smith-ville, Missouri, we have an ob-

ligation and responsibility to pray for our missionary, Bro. Jamie Jones, and for his family, Rebekah, his wife, and their children. They cannot be successful in this en-deavor unless we as God’s people spend time on our knees in prayer. Here are eight ways you can help your missionary through prayer.

1. Pray for acceptance by fellow pastors and leaders in other churches – Romans 15:31

2. Pray for boldness in witnessing – Ephesians 6:19

3. Pray for clarity in preaching and teaching – Colossians 4:4

4. Pray for deliverance from evil – Romans 15:31

5. Pray for extension of ministry – Colossians 4:2

6. Pray for faithfulness in Spiritual endeavors – II Thessalonians 3:1

7. Pray for him throughout the day on Sunday -

8. Spend seven days with him in prayer:

I would like to invite every church in the Baptist Missionary Association of America to be represented by atten-dance or official letter at the 60th annual meeting of the BMA of America. The meeting will be held April 20-22, 2009 at the Branson Convention Center in Branson, Missouri.

The theme for the meeting will be “Faith: Raising the Sails!” The theme is based upon Hebrews 10:38 and 11:6: “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him . . . without faith it is impossible to please him.” An additional subtitle to the theme will be “Remembering our Past, Envi-sioning our Future.”

Every action of our association over the past decades has required the exercising of faith to be pleasing in God’s sight. My prayer is that this annual meeting will inspire us to dedicate ourselves to living by faith for the next 60 years.

Monday evening’s session will focus upon the meeting’s theme. Tuesday will provide meeting opportunities for auxiliaries, departmental and agency boards, and the Pastors’ and Laymen’s Conference. Business will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons along with Wednesday morning. Tuesday night’s service will include a con-cert by the Central Baptist College Choir and the annual message by Bro. Greg Medenwald. The annual meeting will climax with the Missions report and commissioning service on Wednesday night.

Most sessions will have occasion to remember our past! Please continue your prayers for each ministry and indi-vidual supported by the Baptist Missionary Association of America. May we be strong in our resolve to please the Lord by living in faith!

At Faith we have more projects in the works for the building; including putting siding on the north (front) of the church and replacing some fau-cets. For recreational activities we've been able to enter in with Glenview at times for their movie

nights; and we had one of our own early this winter. We are now studying the Gospel of Matthew on Wednesday nights. Faith is pleased to be the host church for the BMA of Kansas City Annual Meeting this year. It will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. The building will be open for committee meetings or any preliminaries at 9:00. We hope to see many of you

there. In early April we are looking forward to our church anniversary; we'll let you know what we're plan-ning as it draws closer. We would appreciate your continued prayers for the lost and the unchurched.

Another year has passed and a new one is beginning. It was a great year at Grace with lots of growth every-where.

Our Small Group Ministry is grow-ing so much that one group spilt into three. God has really blessed our Small Groups. It’s been over three years now that we started the Small Groups and it has been amazing to see the spiritual growth among them.

Our Youth are going strong and there are lots of exciting trips com-

ing up for them. Every year they have a new theme and this year it is based out of Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.” We are thankful for our youth leaders and their willingness to help our teens look for Jesus with all of their heart.

The Kids For Christ program is a fun adventure for our younger kids. There are lots of things planned through out the year for our k-5th graders. They went to Lowe’s this month and made a time capsule that they took home and put their most treasured items in to save. All the

kids enjoy going to the workshops at Lowe’s.

Our Praise Teams are all doing a great job of leading us in the song portion of our worship. The adult team leads us on Sunday mornings. We have a youth band, Semper Fi, that leads the Youth Group on Sun-day nights and play some with the adults on Sunday morning. We also have started a band for the younger kids, Holy Divine is their name. They play for us on special occasions and they are a great bunch of tal-ented kids.

With the new year now in full swing, we are seeking to make 2009 a year of “Worshiping God and Reaching Others”. This is our motto, and it is our desire to do our best to fulfill it.

Congratulations to Travis and Kayleen French on the birth of their daughter, Lauren Michelle. Miss Lauren was born on Monday, Janu-ary 19th at 12:34 pm. She weighed 8 lb. 13 oz. and measured 21 ¼ inches in length. Big brother Trevor welcomed her home. She is beauti-ful and healthy, and we are blessed to have this newest little one in our nursery.

Bro. Justin and Bro. Paul reported a great time at the Missions Sympo-sium. It’s always a blessing to hear from our missionaries, and the meeting really helped get the “50 Days of Prayer and Giving” cam-paign started.

Several of our men have been busy tearing out our old baptistery and preparing the stage for a new one. The sanctuary and stage area will be receiving a mini-makeover, and we are very anxious to see the finished product.

Master’s Voice, a talented Christian group from Oklahoma, blessed us in concert. They brought a powerful message of Christ’s redeeming love in song, and touched the heart of everyone present. It was good to

see the altar filled at the close of the service.

Our hearts were saddened at the passing of two faithful members, Lorraine Morrison and Marsha Toney. They both loved the Lord and enjoyed serving His church, and we will miss their sweet presence, but as believers we rejoice that they are now at home with the Father, free of illness and pain.

Greet ings once again from Meadowside. It is our hope and prayer that you are experiencing God’s blessings and following His will in your life.

A surprise birthday party was held for Bro. Don following our evening service on January 25. A special cake was made for him and many cards and well wishes were ex-tended to him. He was all smiles in his special birthday hat. We are so thankful for Bro. Don and Sis. Con-nie. It was a lot of fun and we were glad to share in his special day.

Thirteen men enjoyed the men’s monthly prayer breakfast Saturday morning, February 7th. Bro. Matt

Evans brought the devotional. Good food, good fellowship and good blessings were enjoyed by all.

One of our members came a long way to be in our service on Sunday morning, February 15th. Bro. Roger Wilson is back from Iraq for a few weeks and we were so glad to see him and Connie and their grand-children together again. Our prayers are with them as we know this time is going by very fast. We pray for his safe return to Iraq and for God’s arms around him until he returns home permanently. Con-tinue praying for our service men and women as they protect and de-fend our country. We owe them so much.

The youth of our church sponsored a spaghetti dinner following the morning service. Not only did they

decorate and make things comfort-able for everyone, they also made plenty of desserts and waited on the tables. All we had to do was go in and sit down. A special thank you to all of the kids and to Matt and Amy Evans and Brian Boore for working with them and helping in this under-taking. They’re planning on using the money raised toward church camp.

We have seen prayers answered, but we still have many on our prayer list. God has been so good and we give Him all praise and glory. Until next time . . .

Wow! What a fast 2008 it was, and it's already February 2009. I guess time flies when you’re having fun on deputation. We have received so many blessings from the churches we have visited so far. It seems that there is an excitement in the air among many churches about search-ing for the lost. I have had the privilege of being in churches and visiting with associations that are seeking to rescue those that are without salvation in Christ. I am personally excited about what God is doing among many people in the BMAA. I pray that God gives us an

attitude of search and rescue (Luke 19:10).

I spent this last week sharing the vi-sion for North Lake Church with churches in Mississippi and Okla-homa, and also getting some DCPI (Dynamic Church Planting Interna-tional) training. The training course focused on the mother church, daughter church relationship. It was a great blessing to have the pastor of my mother church, Bro. Danny Kirk there. The training gave us both a healthy respect for the church plant-ing relationship between a mother and daughter church. We also es-tablished some personal goals for our perspective positions. Please pray that God would keep us fo-

cused about the calling He has given us!

Lord willing, we will visit a few churches in Missouri over the next couple of weeks, and then head out for Arkansas to continue the deputa-tion process. Please continue to pray for traveling grace upon my family and don't forget to be on mis-sion to search and rescue!

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; be-cause I go unto my Father." -- John 14:12. It is wonderful to know that we are not alone but in partnership with God. It is a glorious privilege to be a co-laborer with the Lord, and to be able to lean upon the Holy Spirit for God's will and purpose in our lives. But when the troubles come, it is often difficult to under-stand the working of our God.

This past month many in our mem-bership have experienced serious illness and the death of loved ones. Joan Boore and Jim Moore have had tests at St John's Hospital in Joplin. At the time of writing, Wayne Boore is at the Cornerstone

Facility in Pittsburg, Larry Salzman is in Mt Carmel Hospital, & Mary Garbin has had a kidney transplant at KU Medical Center. During the ice storm on January 27th, Marvin & Lorena Lewis received word that their 45-year old son, Bob, of Seda-lia, MO had died suddenly with a heart failure. It is in times like these that we must stop & realize that God is always with us, seeing to the deepest needs of each of us in our crisis.

Our church family experienced a time of sharing & caring during a finger-food fellowship following an evening worship service. Our Pas-tor has placed information & verses concerning prayer on each of our altars along with a card index for requests. Bro Ernie's messages have recently been centered around re-vival. Some of our members have been coming & spending private time at the church altars with the

Lord. Our sister churches are in-vited to attend our scheduled revival services with Bro Jeff Swart at our church on March 29th through April 1st.

Our church has recently purchased 24 new Bibles. A few of the new Bibles will be given to newly bap-tized members whereas some others will be placed in the pew racks. We have planned to receive special of-ferings this month for the Gideon ministry & for the Fifty Days of Prayer & Giving during our national missions emphasis.

Even in these uncertain & troubled times, as Christians we are designed & equipped to change the world for God's glory.

BMMI Presents Needed Nutrition to Village By Ralph Izard, M.D. (Director of BMAA Baptist Medical Missons International)

The Baptist Medical Missions International (BMMI) was able to provide nutritional help to the children of Rattanakiri Province thanks to the “Children Helping Children” program and also in part to “Making Everlasting Smiles”. The BMMI just completed a mission trip to Cambodia from January 18th to January 30th. Working primarily in six villages of the province, the team ministered to 1175 persons with medication and also distributed vitamins and parasite medicine to several hundred additional children. Most of the men, women, boys and girls in the three new villages vis-ited during this project had never seen a doctor!

The number of baptized believers continues to grow in the Rattanakiri Province and the school, under the direction of Brother Ed-mund Neil Mamon, contin-ues to increase in the num-ber of students to the point that additional space is badly needed, as well as a project center and living quarters.

The residents of the Prov-ince of Rattanakiri in Cam-bodia express a sincere “thank you” for the help that you have provided to

them. It also provides a great opportunity to share Jesus Christ with them; most have no knowl-edge of Him. The Lord is doing great things in Cambodia and we are honored that He is using the Baptist Missionary Association of America!
