BASIC 4 CONNECTING IN ENGLISH

BASIC BLOCK OBJECTIVES

1. To articulate more complex topics including

thoughts, plans, interests, preferences.

2. To be aware of the communicative purpose

of language and engage easily with other

students.

3. To use internet and technology to

communicate in a global English-speaking

world.

COURSE OBJECTIVE Students make connections between

what they do in class, and what people use English for on a daily basis through technology and tools such as virtual communities. They should be accomplished social agents in the classroom using English comfortably for daily interaction with peers

COURSE PROJECT Students will form a classroom community, reuniting

former students with new ones. They will carry out

extensive social interactions in the classroom daily.

They will post their own profile and check out those

of others, do a link search and finally post their first

blog for the public

UNIT ONE: MAKING FRIENDS

Unit two: interests

Unit three: health

UNIT 1: MAKING FRIENDS Unit objective: Students are aware of the

benefits of joining an on-line community to share with friends and classmates and improve their English and learn new skills

Unit task: join an on-line community. Students learn what an on-line community is and see an example, then they receive an invitation from the teacher and they join the community.

Portfolio entry: reply to the invitation to join the on-line community and a reflection on their experience with technology.

UNIT 2: INTERESTS Unit objective: Students share their interests with

their partners being aware of the differences there might among their peers are as well as become familiar with profile statements to post and read them.

Unit task: my profile. Students will complete the basic personal profiles including a graphic as well as visit their partner’s profiles to compare their interest with others.

Portfolio entry: A description of how their profile matches the one from another student in the community and a reflection on their experience as a member of an on-line community

UNIT 3: HEALTH Unit objective: students should be able to use

language related to health issues and staying healthy in order to share with community members

Unit task: link search on health: students search the www for health-related they are interested, they chose and appropriate site, post the link and explain why the site is interesting.

Portfolio entry: a short entry about what they have learned in the site and why it is useful

UNIT 4: CELEBRATIONS Unit objective: students will be able to describe and

share cultural events and festivals with their classmates and conduct a basic research from recording their own experiences.

Unit task: let’s celebrate!: Students choose a local o regional celebration they are interested in based on background knowledge and web-based searching Ss will post a profile of the celebration they’ve chosen on the on-line community and finally check their classmates’ posts.

Portfolio entry: the blog they posted and a reflection on their cooperative learning experience
