Introduction.Beiqi Foton Motors is an automobile industry, based in Beijing province of China, which mainly deals with making Heavy duty vehicles, like Trucks, Container Holders, SUVs, Family Sedans, Cranes.
Founded on August 28, 1996, it soon evolved into being one of the field’s biggest players, with it’s empire sprawling across 4 continents. Beiqi Foton Motors incidentally happens to be the World’s 2nd highest producer of Heavy Duty Vehicles, quite an achievement, considering it already had fierce competitors in that very field.
Headquartered in Changping District, Beijing, with existing assets of nearly 30 billion Yuan and nearly 40,000 employees, Foton is a large enterprise group that takes Beijing as the management center, owns vehicle and parts departments in nine provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions including Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Hebei, Hunan, Hubei, Liaoning, Guangdong and Xinjiang, and has R & D branches distributed in countries and regions such as China, Japan, Germany and Taiwan.
In 2010, Foton's brand value stood at 38.872 billion Yuan, ranking first in the commercial vehicle field; in the same year, Foton sold more than 680,000 units, maintaining the lead among global commercial vehicle manufacturers. Statistics tell us that Foton products are mostly used in China, followed closely by The Middle Eastern territories like Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
Since establishment, Foton has relied on its perfect legal corporate governance structure, kept to the road of technical innovation, market innovation, mechanism innovation and management innovation, and has grown into an independent Chinese auto brand and a nucleus of independent innovation. Now, Foton owns 11 brands, including Auman, AUV, Aumark, Midi, View, Saga, Ollin, SUP, Tunland and Forland.

NOTE – Recently, in 2012, Foton have set up their corporate office in Pune, with a view to start production in 2014, the factory being located in Chakan, which is about 45 kms from Pune City. This incidentally is their first venture in India.
Joint Ventures of Foton Motors.
1.) Foton and Cummins
In March 2008, China’s largest engine manufacturer Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (BFCEC) was established with a joint investment of 2.7 billion Yuan and an annual production capacity of 400,000 units. ISF3.8L and ISF2.8Ll engines manufactured by BFCEC were up to international leading standards. BFCEC’s establishment marks a major breakthrough in Foton’s globalization.
On June 9, 2009, “Global Engine, World Power” -- BFCEC’s production ceremony for 400,000 engines was held in Beijing. The mass production of ISF3.8L engines will boost Foton’s globalization, marking a milestone in Foton’s globalization process.
2.) Foton and Daimler
On January 29, 2009, Foton and Daimler AG concluded an agreement on commercial vehicle cooperation in Berlin, Germany. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel attended the signing ceremony. Under the agreement, the two parties will establish a medium & heavy-duty truck joint venture with a shareholding proportion of 50 to 50, which will provide medium & heavy-duty trucks and relevant technologies and services, and will explore to expand the brand and sales of Foton Auman around the world.
On February 18, 2012 Daimler AG and Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd. (Daimler) and Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. (Foton) held the “Conference on Establishment of Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd.” in Beijing to celebrate the conclusion of the joint venture negotiation. The first meeting of the board of directors of the joint venture was staged concurrently.
Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd. (joint venture) was established with a total investment of 6.35 billion Yuan and a registered capital of 5.6 billion Yuan, of which Foton and Daimler hold a 50% share each.
The joint venture will manufacture “Auman” medium & heavy-duty trucks and Daimler- licensed 490hp Euro V Mercedes-Benz OM457 heavy-duty engines, and will fully integrate Foton’s advantage in domestic and Asian market operations with Daimler’s advantages in quality control and R & D.

business practice and promotes value growth. Foton was acclaimed by Jia Qinglin, chairman of the
CPPCC, as a "modern enterprise integrating numerous reform achievements", was honored as "a
fastest-growing automaker" in the industry, won honors and titles such as "National Advanced Grass-
roots Party Organizations", "National May 1 Labor Award", "China's Top Ten Machinery Manufacturers
with Good Images", "National Advanced Enterprises in Quality Control", "National May 4 Red Youth
Leagues", "2005 CCTV Favorite Chinese Brands", "China's Fastest-growing Manufacturers with

In view of Foton's achievements in new energy R & D and marketing, Foton was honored as a new
energy vehicle design and manufacturing base by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the
Beijing Municipal Government. On this basis, Foton, in combination with a number of new energy
production, teaching and research institutions and upstream and downstream enterprises, established
China's first new energy vehicle industry alliance, Alliance of Beijing New Energy Automotives.

Liu Qi, Beijing Municipal Party Secretary and member of the Chinese Communist Party's Politburo,
visited and inspected Foton.
Midi made its global debut at Beijing Auto Show as China's first commercial/personal vehicle.
Foton Aumark served "Good Luck Beijing" Marathon.

2010 -
Foton adopted a new logo.
