The Waukon Chamber of Commerce will kick off the festivities with a meal of sweet corn and pork loin sandwiches in the Waukon State Bank parking lot Friday night from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Allamakee County Dairy Wagon along with Brain Freeze will be on site selling ice cream and snow cones. Brandi Moore will also be painting faces. The Waukon Celebrity Dunk Tank will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and will feature local “celebrities” Mason Berns, Jeremy Strub, Lyle Bodensteiner, Sandy Halverson, Gil Hunstad and Lee Stegen.

Veterans Memorial Hospital will be offering free Blood Pressure Checks by the hospital’s Community and Home Care Department at the Waukon Corn Day celebration Friday, August 14. The tests will be performed in the Veterans Memorial Hospital first aid tent located in the Waukon State Bank parking lot, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. during the Corn Days meal. A community health survey will also be offered for any adult to fill out while enjoying their meal. Hand Washing demonstrations will also be offered at the hospital booth and a first aid station will be available if needed. For more information on these activities, please call Veterans Memorial Hospital at 568-3411.

Queen Jean Quilting will bestow one 11-12 year old girl (must be 11-12 years of age, on or before, September 1, 2015) and one 16-17 year old girl (must be 16-17 years of age, on or before, September 1, 2015) with the honor of Little Miss Corn Days and Miss Waukon Corn Days. Contestants will be judged during a public question and answer interview. The crowning of royalty will take place in the Waukon State Bank parking lot at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Miss Waukon Corn Days and Little Miss Corn Days will make an appearance at the Sweet Corn Meal before joining the parade. Registration forms are available at Queen Jean Quilting and the Waukon Chamber Offi ce, or fi nd them online at www.waukon.org or www.waukoncorndays.com or inside this week’s Standard newspaper.
There will be a Corn Days Parade through downtown Waukon at 7:00 p.m. Friday. The parade route will be the same as in years past (see map on page 2). Although in previous years this parade has only been open to Classic Cars/Tractors, now everyone is invited to participate with an entry. Those wishing to enter the parade should be lined up by 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Allamakee County Fair Grounds. For additional information, contact The Waukon Chamber of

Not ready for the night to end… Visit Mulligan’s Irish Grill Pub for their DJ & Karaoke. The fun will begin at 7:00 p.m.
JaDecc’S invites all who dare to compete for the title of “Corn Eating Champion” at the classic Corn Eating Contest. Kicking off at 8:00 p.m., Corn Eating Challengers will devour ears of corn to see how many ears can be eaten in fi ve minutes. This year’s competition will take place at the Waukon State Bank parking lot following the parade. Bring your families to cheer on challengers and dodge bits of corn in the audience.
Waukon Park & Rec Wellness will be holding a Teen Night (Dance & Kickball). Teen Night will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday at the Waukon Softball Complex. This event is open to any student who will be entering either sixth, seventh or eighth grade this fall. The cost is $5 per student.

Veterans Memorial Hospital will host its annual 5K Cardiac Classic Run/Walk Saturday, August 15. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. with the run/walk beginning at 8:00 a.m. Registration forms are available at Veterans Memorial Hospital and the Waukon Chamber Office, or find them online at www.waukon.org or www.waukoncorndays.com.
If you’re serious about archery, then you probably try to find ways to use your bow throughout the entire year. For
only $10, you can participate in a 3-D Archery Shoot. The shoot will take place at Sportsmen’s Unlimited from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 3-D archery shoots are not only a blast, but they will also help your shot stay accurate.
St. Patrick Parish and St. Pat’s Catholic School will be serving breakfast at the Waukon Chamber of Commerce parking lot from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The menu includes make-your-own breakfast burritos, bananas, cinnamon rolls, coffee, milk and orange juice.
The Allamakee Community School District presents, the first Walking Tour of the Waukon Senior High. The tour will take place Saturday, August 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and will begin at the Main Entrance of the Waukon High School, located at 1059 Third Ave. NW.
Join the Good Samaritan Society’s 7th annual I-Ride Motorcycle Cruise!! This scenic ride will take place August 15. Registration will be at Good Samaritan Society – Waukon from 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Ride leaves at 9:00 a.m.!! WAUKON CORN DAYS 2015
Beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Mulligan’s Irish Grill Pub parking lot, youngsters can put their battery-powered machines to the test as they compete in the 1st Corn Days Power Wheels Race. With speeds nearing a blistering fi ve mph, competitors will experience the thrill of racing. Come out and cheer for your favorite tiny racer in their mini Mustangs, Junior Jeeps and little lawn tractors. Any regular electric Power Wheels are allowed, but the motors and batteries must remain stock. Ages four to 12 may participate. Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Waukon Farmers Market is pleased to open its market on Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. downtown Waukon. The market will feature vendors with local, Iowa-grown produce, food products and more.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will be hosting an Ice Cream Social from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Methodist Church (27 Second Ave. NW).
There will be a summer carnival for children Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Waukon State Bank parking lot; children will be able to enjoy numerous carnival type activities. There will be a wide variety of games for kids of all ages. Activities will include: balloon art, caricature drawings, face painting, a fast pitch game, basketball, water balloon toss, high striker, hay bale maze, make your own bubble blower, egg and potato sack races and large yard games. A few games are $1 donation per turn. Brain Freeze will be on site selling snow cones, and there will be cotton candy, popcorn and funnel cakes for sale too.
Showcase your kitchen creativity and enter the Corn Dish Contest. Create and compete with any delicious dish that will wow your friends! Simply use corn to reinvent a classic appetizer or revitalize an everyday main meal or even dessert! Waukon residents will choose winners based on appearance, flavor and texture. The meal (11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., downtown Main St.) includes a brat, a bottle of water and corn dish taste testing for only $5. Awards and recognition await the top finishers. The Robey Memorial Library presents, the 1st Walking Tour of the newly updated Waukon library. The tour will take place Saturday, August 15 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. and will begin at the Main Entrance of Robey Memorial Library, located at 401 First Avenue NW.

Teams of two will race through an obstacle course while riding on a Toilet Bowl. This is a timed event. The winning team must fi nish the race with the toilet and pilot (the member of the team seated on the toilet) still remaining on the racer platform. The race will take place at 4:00 p.m. downtown Waukon. Anyone 12 years or older is welcome to participate. Spectators are encouraged and welcome.
There will be a Wine, Cheese and Beer Tasting August 15, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in downtown Waukon. As a premiere wine, cheese and beer experience, the event will feature three area businesses: Empty Nest Winery, WW Homestead Dairy and Toppling Goliath Brewing Company.

Make memories you will treasure by creating a Corn Cob Painting, taking a ride down the giant Slip-n-Slide or taking home one of Greenie’s Balloons from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Waukon City Park
See, Touch, Learn: The Farm Comes To You! Visit the NEI Animal Club Petting Farm at the Waukon City Park from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The petting farm features all your favorite furry farm animals.
Allamakee Flyers Inc. and Waukon Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Fly-in-Breakfast at the Waukon Airport from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Allamakee Flyers Inc. will be giving twenty-minute airplane rides for $20.
How about an exciting day of paintball? There is no better way to have a blast with friends and family. Waukon Power Sports is hosting paintball games from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Waukon City Park. For only a $15 fee you get the use of a paintball gun, 100 paintballs and gear.
The Waukon Police Department, Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance and Waukon Fire Department will be providing children a close-up look at a police car, ambulance, fi re truck and the equipment they carry inside. Safety vehicles will be on display at the Waukon City Park from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Kids can jump into a pool full of corn kernels in search of shiny coins! Fidelity Bank and Trust will be holding a Penny Hunt in the Waukon City Park starting at 12:00 p.m.
Pool party at the Waukon Aquatic Center. Family Floaty Day is open to the public, so bring your friends! Flotation devices are allowed in the pool on Floaty Day (with some exception) so bring your inner tubes and other fl oaties. Standard admission prices apply.
Waukon Youth Wrestling will be serving lunch at the Waukon City Park from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The team will also host ping pong games.
Power Wheels Derby! Come watch kids compete like the big people do! Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. derby begins at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, August 16 at the Waukon City Park. Kids ages four to nine may participate. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Best of Show.
