Using SAGE database
Aim of the session
At the end of the session you will be able to search the thesaurus for subject terms and the using these search the database for relevant records.

• Understand the benefit of using the SAGE thesaurus.
• Search the thesaurus for subject terms.
• Search the SAGE database for relevant records, by using terms from the thesaurus.

Science And Geography Education(SAGE)database
• SAGE is a bibliographic database that indexes popular journals on a broad range of subjects.
• Most journals indexed are Australian, but selected overseas titles are also included.• It contains 93907 records; 1990 – present• Subject coverage: Science and General, including: Agriculture, Archaeology, Astronomy,
Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Ethics, Geography, Natural History, Physics, Sustainability and Zoology.
SAGE is designed to: • Encourage use of resources by providing subject access to information contained in
journals. • Gives general understanding of the importance and value of science in Australia. • Encourage students to retrieve relevant information in a more effective way. • Teach students the principles of information retrieval. • Encourage the use of scientific and technical information.
SAGE is intended for a user group including secondary school students, lower tertiary students and the general public.
SAGE Thesaurus
• The Thesaurus function allows you to view an online thesaurus ,from which you can select controlled language terms for searching.
Browsing a thesaurus• Browse thesaurus terms, then locate terms in
database records.Searching a thesaurus• Find thesaurus terms, then locate terms in database
records.
Demonstration
• Logon to INFORMIT• Open SAGE database
