PROJECT OVERVIEW• This project is for duration of two years i.e. April 2011-March

2013.

Major activities of this collaborative project are:• Identification of 40 teachers from 20 MCD Primary Schools

where this pedagogical technique can be adopted• Constitution of Core team comprising of experts from the field

of performing and visual art, educationists, administrative personnel from education deptt of MCD, school heads, teachers, parent representatives to facilitate the program

• Orientation of identified school principals as part of the facilitation team

• A Ten Day Training programme for selected MCD Primary school Teachers of District West was conducted where different themes included in the training package were covered

Integration of Art with other subjects

• Arts here becomes the medium of teaching and learning, that is painting, drama and music become the integral part of the classroom and the centre of the curriculum helping in clarifying concepts. AIL provides the means to bridge the content of different subjects in logical, child centred and meaningful ways. It facilitates participants to explore and work with various art forms, internalising the concepts of art education as pedagogy for primary education.

Appreciation of art and role of museums in education

• This module enables teachers to develop understanding of art appreciation in the context of school education. Museums sisplay arts from different times in history and geography. The ailm of this modue is to link museum displays with school curriculum and even explains how schools can develop their own mini-mueums.

Evaluation in Arts

• This module introduces participants to the various criteria and techniques that can be used to evaluate the progress of the children through a 3 tier approach of self evaluation, peer evaluation and teacher evaluation , enabling effective teach and teaching.

• During the second phase of training a Five day workshop on Capacity Building was organised.

• Focus - to share the teaching experiences of the teachers based on their hands-on experience in their respective schools of implementing AIL.

• Experiences showed the impact of AIL on students :– increase in participation level in the class– increased concentration in classroom activities – behavioural changes – lots of enthusiasm among children – more curiosity about the activities

– To enhance insights for evolving /creating individual methods of teaching learning adapted to ground realities and local needs.

• An exemplar material created by DIET Rajinder Nagar showing application of AIL in different school subjects

• Developed collectively by the teachers as well as teacher educators.• An effort to develop reference material on AIL in classroom situation.• In all 20 types of art activities identified and linked with teaching of

different concepts of different subjects• Main focus of these activities –involve participation of all the students

without further expenses, cater to multiple intelligences, different learning styles and different abilities of children.

• From these select schools two sections from each school have been identified as experimental classrooms and other sections of the school would be control classrooms.

• Preparation of First Term Test Papers

Test papers based on the syllabus of the First term of classes I-V of all the subjects namely, Hindi, English, Maths, EVS and EVSS have been prepared. These papers have been prepared keeping in mind the guidelines as spelt in the CCE document of CBSE.

Main highlight of these question papers is that there are activities/ questions that help map the understanding/performance of children in all the three domains i.e. Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor domain.

The test items include both written, oral as well as performing skills.
