On the second day of school, I said. We don’t say “I like” or “I don’t like” an artwork.

With a partner come up with four steps to talking about artwork, which both give the user feedback about their work, as well as express your opinion about an artwork.

Using those four steps “critique” this artwork by Picasso.

Describe the artwork

When look at the artwork ask your self these questions to help describe it.

How would you classify the style?

What is the work of?What is the media?Are there colors? Do

they follow a specific scheme?

Analyze the artwork

What elements are present?

How did the artist use those elements?

What principles can you see?

Interpret the artwork

What do you think the mood is?

Who do you think this is painted for?

Does the artist have a message?

What is the artist’s message?

What is the artist’s purpose?

Evaluate the artwork

Was the artist successful in conveying their intended message?

How is the craftsmanship of the artwork?

How is the artwork presented?

What do you like or dislike about the artwork?

Just be cause you like or don’t like it, does that make it bad or good?
