DESCRIPTIONTheGPMprovidestheSafeTorqueOff(STO)functionasdefinedinIEC61800-5-2.Threeopto-couplersareprovidedwhich,whende-energized,preventtheupperandlowerdevicesinthePWMoutputsfrombeingoperatedbythedigitalcontrolcore.ThisprovidesapositiveOFFcapabilitythatcannotbeoverriddenbythecontrolfirmware,orassociatedhardwarecomponents.Whentheopto-couplersareactivated(currentisflowingintheinputdiodes),thecontrolcorewillbeabletocontroltheon/offstateofthePWMoutputs.

opto-couplers before the drive can be
enabled
STOBYPASS(DISABLING)InorderforthePWMoutputsofthedrivetobeactivated,currentmustbeflowingthroughalloftheopto-couplersthatareconnectedtothe STO-1andSTO-2terminalsofJ3,andthedrivemustbeinanENABLEDstate.Whentheopto-couplersareOFF,thedriveisinaSafeTorqueOff(STO)stateandthePWMoutputscannotbeactivatedbythecontrolcoretodriveamotor.Thisdiagramshowsconnectionsthatwillenergizealloftheopto-couplersfromaninternalcurrent-source.WhenthisisdonetheSTOfeatureisdisabledandcontroloftheoutputPWMstageisundercontrolofthedigitalcontrolcore. ThisshowshowaProtectiveEarth(PE)connectioncanbemadewiththeGPMdrive.Thestandoffsshownaresolidwithtappedholesoneachend.InpreperationformountingtheGPMthestandoffsshouldberetainedwithfourscrews(notshown)insertedfromthebottomofthePCboard.TheseretainthespacersandmakeohmiccontactwithconductivetracesonthePCboard.Asshownallfourstandoffsareconnectedbyatracewhichhasanextensiontooneofthemountingholes.Thisshouldbeaplated-throughholetoconnecttoeartheitherbystandofftotheequipmentbondedenclosureorbycabletoearthground.Whenthedriveisplacedonthestandoffsthenextstepistoplacethethermalpadtakingcaretoalignthetwocornerholeswiththedriveheatplate.Followingthattheheatsinkcanbeplaced,againwithcaretoalignwiththedriveheatplateholes.Finallyinstallthescrewstoretaintheheatsink.Thiswillpresstwooftheheatsinkcornerswithnotchesinthethermalpadtomakecontactwiththedriveheatplate,providingaconductivepath.Fromtheheatplate,contactismadewiththespacersandfinallytothemountingboardetchandtoearth.
