Brazilian Shipbuilding Revival

•Brazil in the 70s ranked second to Japan inthe shipbuilding global market.

•The industry collapsed in the 80s due tolocal economic factors (hyperinflation andinterest rates) and end of state subsidies.

•The relaunch started circa 2000 withoffshore platform construction forPETROBRAS (mainly national and foreignEPC players) complemented +2005 bylocal shipbuilding contracting programs(PROMEF I, II / TRANSPETRO).

Investments in the water transportation system

•Brazil is already developing the rehabilitation and structuringof the railway system. Now the challenge is to structure an inland waterway system that contributes to a better equilibrium of the Brazilian transport matrix in terms of energy, economy and sustainability. Such an arrangement implies a governmental articulation concerning the multiple use of water resources and the appropriate environmental handling.

•PAC – Growth Acceleration Program (inland waterway + ports)

• Several projects - around USD 8 billion up until 2014

•Porto Maravilha – revitalization of the zone of the port of Rio de Janeiro (USD 4,6 billion)
