New standards in sample preconditioning
Filtration, dilution and settling.
From the sample take-off point to the analyzer The successful implementation of wet-chemical analyzers in process control
strategies could not have been achieved without the development of a new
generation of automatic sampling and sample preconditioning systems.
Pretreatment systems that can deal with the most difficult waste water
streams, complex matrices or the harshest chemical liquids? AppliTek offers
a solution to each and every preconditioning challenge:
• Filtration: from 0.04 µm up to 2 mm
• Dilution: for g/l measuring ranges
• Settling: for very high solids content or saturated liquids
Rationale behind sample preconditioning
Sample preconditioning is not restrained to simply filtration but consists of
several techniques to automatically precondition a sample. The importance
of appropriate sample preparation for an on-line analyzer system cannot be
understated. Even the best analytical techniques cannot rectify problems
generated by neglected sample pretreatment, and poor analytical precision
or analyzer failure often occur as a result of this.

Reduced maintenance
All AppliTek preconditioning systems are designed for fully automatic
operation and require virtually no human intervention. Basically all systems are
incorporated either with a blow-back action by instrument air, or a specific
cleaning cycle. This fundamental design principle does not merely allow
trouble-free sampling, moreover it contributes to high up-times. The design
and choice of materials of our systems is second to none and make them ideal
to be used in many applications, even for non-AppliTek analyzers.
Custom sampling and preconditioning panels Deeply rooted into the process industry, AppliTek has extensive experience
with a vast choice of pretreatment techniques. We not only know how to
handle and pretreat liquids but also slurries, powders and gasses. Therefore
we are able to modify our existing standard systems, or to engineer a new and
unique preconditioning panel in accordance to your specs.
Quality policy and trustability
In some cases, automatic self-cleaning sample preconditioning systems
may be as complicated as the analytical instrumentation to which they
deliver clean samples. Trustability is therefore the currency of exchange
between you and AppliTek. Our quality approach is visible in all steps of
the delivery chain, from the initial design up to quality control, adding a
proven track record of more than 25 years of analytical technology.
Clearly better solutions in sample pretreatment.

ModuSize® Self-cleaning Filtration System
Initially designed for larger travel streams, this classic AppliTek fast loop
filtration system already has a long track record of reliability and
strong operational performance. The stainless steel filter element is
available with various pore sizes which makes it an ideal solution for
pretreating wastewater and industrial effluent prior to analysis. While
ModuSize® is available as a standard filtration panel, it can be integrated
in many customized filtration systems in analyzer cabinets and shelters.

Also visible: filter units, static pressure regulators, valves and collective drain. There are two ways to control the ModuSize®: equipped with a built-in PLC, the system can operate autonomously, even in remote location. The version without PLC uses the PLC of an AppliTek analyzer and needs to be installed on the same location as the analyzer.

Buffer container A buffer container with a compact footprint and elaborate design can be included in your design. This not only allows a quicker refreshing of the sample buffer volume, but
also airtight sealing against possible odours or gases,
and the possibility to insert a level detection.
Cleaning principle Instrument air is injected continuously through a central aeration element located at the bottom of the filter. The air bubbles cause turbulence at the surface, which prevents
solids to stick to the membrane.

liquid samples, due to physical qualities and composition. It is a valuable
tool that allows you to collect data on the sample’s characteristics and
check carefully whether a sample preconditioning is needed, and if so,
which system within AppliTek’s standard range would be recommended.
