Rev. Dr. J. D. Landis February 25, 2018
Midland First United Methodist Church
Order of Worship - 9AM
February 25, 2018 Liturgist: Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Maxwell
GREETINGS & SHARING OF ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Prelude is a signal to end our conversations and prepare our hearts for worship.
PRELUDE “Come, Ye Sinners” arr. R. Schram
Wesley Men - Grace Marra, director
*CONGREGATIONAL INTROIT “Surely the Presence of the Lord” #328
*CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Jesus, the Lord of heaven and earth, came to earth to show
God’s love.
People: While on earth he did not demand his rights as God.
Leader: But he humbled himself, lived among us, and experienced our
struggles. People: In his humility he was nailed to a cross and died for our sins.
Leader: As followers of Jesus Christ we are also called to be humble.
People: We are not to consider ourselves greater than others.
All: In humility Jesus gave his life on the cross, so in humility may we
serve one another. Amen.
*HYMN “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” #154
UNISON PRAYER
Loving Lord, we crowd our lives with so much activity that it is hard to find
time for you. We become so focused on ourselves, we can overlook
those around us who are searching for hope. We fill our spiritual
emptiness with junk, rather than feasting on your mercy. Forgive us, O
Lord, and open our eyes, that we may see the great love you have
shown us. Open our hearts, that we may join you in serving the broken of
the world. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Amen.
ANTHEM “The Narrow Way” arr. J. L. Scott
Chancel Choir - Grace Marra, director
PASTORAL PRAYER/THE LORD’S PRAYER/CHORAL RESPONSE
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.
OFFERING OF TITHES & GIFTS
Children are invited to head to KidZone during the Offertory, and they can be picked up in The Hub after worship. Children may also remain in this service with their families.

At the Movies Two great movies are coming to Midland: “Samson” and “I Can Only
Imagine.”
“Samson” was released on Feb. 16
and is based on the powerful
Biblical epic of a champion
chosen by God to deliver Israel.
His supernatural strength and
impulsive decisions quickly pit him
against the oppressive Philistine
empire. After being betrayed by a
wicked prince and a beautiful
temptress, Samson is captured and blinded by his enemies. Samson
calls upon his God once more for supernatural strength and turns
imprisonment and blindness into final victory. Rated PG-13, 1 hour and
50 minutes.
“I Can Only Imagine,” which will
be released on March 16, tells the
story behind the song that has
brought hope to so many and
the writer, Bart Millard. A gripping
reminder of the power of
forgiveness, this movie beautifully
illustrates that no one is ever too
far from God’s love - or from an
eternal home in Heaven. Rated PG, 1 hour and 50 minutes.
