Britain 1933- 1938In the 1930s the British government had to decide whether to let Jewish refugees in from mainland Europe.

Britain had high unemployment (many people without jobs) There was a feeling of antisemitism (dislike of Jewish people) There were strict limits on allowing in refugees Britain did not want to upset Hitler

From 1938 onwards the situation in Nazi Germany became worse.

The British government decided to allow 10,000 unaccompanied children into Britain.
