Destruction of Coral Reefs

The Main Causes of Coral Reef Destruction…

Overfishing

And Global Warming

Reefs harbor 25% of all known marine animals

70% of corals are threatened or destroyed

Coral reefs have the most biodiversity after rainforests!

75% of ALL fish are overfished/ depleted!

Global warming causes fish to move away from Tropics

This causes reefs to have less biodiversity!

Think about this…. Fish could be gone within the next century!!!

If we had better conservation measures…

We would have healthy coral reefs!

Global Climate Change…

CAUSES CORAL REEFS TO BLEACH AND DIE!!!

Global Threats

Oil spills

Pollution

Global Warming

DiversBomb Fishing

and many more!

Tourism DESTROYS coral reefs!

THIS IS IMPORTANT!

58% of the world’s coral reefs are threatened by human activities!

500 million people depend on coral reefs

30 million are

100% dependent

You can save coral reefs!

By not buying coral reef souvenirs…

Did you know?

That’s crazy!

Cruise ships dump 30,000+ gallons of human sewage a day into the oceans we swim in!!! EWWWWW!!!!!

EWWWWW!!!!!

EWWWWW!!!!!

EWWWWW!!!!!

EWWWWW!!!!!

THERE ARE ABOUT 300 CRUISE SHIPS

300 times 30,000=9 million+ gallons a DAY!

times 100!!!

These…

All of these things cause coral reefs to die

BUT…

You Can HELP!

You can…Walk or bike,Don’t get a ride

Pick up trash,Don’t litter!

Not buy coral reef souvenirs

BE AWARE OF CORAL REEF DESTRUCTION!

Talk with your friends, family, and school

AND MUCH MORE!

You Make The Difference!
