Challenges to full LTE deployment

•• LTE Trial on 1800 MHz spectrum using a 10 MHz carrier (FDD)

• Limitation exists with regards to higher speeds and capacity due to insufficient spectrum.

• Deployment is limited to small areas where 1800 MHz can be refarmed

• Access to 2600 MHz and 800 MHz is critical to ensure that future capacity needs are met and full potential of LTE being reached

• Voice over LTE is not commercialised as yet, need to fallback to 3G/2G network

• Limited number of SIMs have been provisioned for the LTE network pilot.

• The pilot will give selected users:

•Access to the LTE network for broadband usage within coverage areas

•No Handover to 3G and GSM networks

•No support for voice calls

•Theoretical downlink and uplink speeds of 70 and 30 Mbps respectively, with 2X2 Mimo configuration

•Theoretical Latency of 10 ms
