• Activity On Facebook– More than 900 million objects that people interact

with (pages, groups, events and community pages) – Average user is connected to 80 community

pages, groups and events

app on Facebook or experience Facebook Platform on other websites

– More than 7 million apps and websites are integrated with Facebook

Let’s set up a Facebook Page

• First, you have to have a personal Facebook account…kind of– Facebook gives you the option of setting up a page

for your business under a “personal” business identity

– There will be required information later, but you will not have a personal Facebook profile

• Go to www.Facebook.com and I will show you what I am talking about

• If you do have a personal account, type in “Facebook Pages” in the search bar

• Click on it, and go to the page. Then click on “Create a Page”

• Now, either way, we are all at the same place

• Decide what category your specific Page should be under.

• Your business name and type should be classified and spelled how your customers would classify it and spell it

• Example:– WUSBDC (No one will search for that)– Washburn Small Business Development Center• That’s better huh? More keywords too…

• Upload a branded image– Company / Business Logo– Brand through all forms of media

• Invite Friends– A good way to kind of kick-start the page– Not necessary though

• Basic Information– Link your website– Fill out the description. Think of it as an executive

summary for what your business does

• Facebook Footnotes– Profile – A section of Facebook that you create for your

own personal use– Page – A section of Facebook that you create for your

business use– Friend – A person who is following your personal profile– Fan – A person who is following your business profile– Wall – Where the content you post on Facebook goes– Post – A section of media that is put on the wall via

status / page updates– Tag – Attaching a persons name with a picture or post

• Tweet – A post made by someone on Twitter• Mention – A reference of your specific Twitter

account. Begins with an @ sign. Example: @WashburnSBDC

• Hashtag – A means of organization. It allows tweets of certain subjects to be arranged into one spot for easy viewing

Example: #SmallBiz• Follower – Someone that is receiving your tweets

• Best practices for beginning content– Start slow, get used to using all the features of

Facebook and Twitter before promotion– Begin posting content that you think your

customers would find engaging– Start using the “search” function on Twitter– Create a marketing calendar for your social media

campaigns– DO NOT promote your business as Facebook and

Twitter ready when you really aren’t

must meet these two criteria:• Your campaign must be strategic• Your campaign must be consistent
