Analysing “We Love Pop” magazine

Front cover

Mast head at the top

• Mast head at the top in the left hand corner• Name of the magazine• Bold colours used as it stands out and attracts people to the

magazine• Colours can be changes to fit the colour scheme of the magazine

Cover star

• An image of the cover star takes up the majority of the page, they are normally towards the right hand side

• They are famous and used to attract the target audience so more people buy the magazine

• Smilely, friendly pose• Look very beautiful, which makes young girls look up to them and

want to be them

A puff in the corner

• Normally in a puff in the bottom left hand corner• Follow seasonal trends• Make the cover more visually interesting • Attracts the target audience as they are very looks and fashion

conscious

Cover starts name and main cover line

• The name of the cover star is a in big bold font half way up the left side of the page

• It is at an angle tilting upwards• The main cover line also follows this angle

Cover lines on the side

• Cover lines at the top on the right hand side of the page• Main chunk on the left hand side of the page• In coloured boxes with different coloured fonts for different parts

of the cover line• Each line has a different box so it doesn't create a square box

shape• Words use to help draw the audience into the magazine

Bright colour scheme

• A bright colour scheme is used to attract people to the magazine

• Can use seasonal appropriate colours e.g. reds and whites at Christmas time and pink and yellow in the summer.

• Heading of the contents page, for every issue • Play on words on the magazine name “we love pop”• “…” shows the audience more is coming and there is going to be a

list of things they love

Big square picture

• Big square picture in the middle of the page• A picture of the main cover star• Continues a theme through out the magazine between the front

cover, contents page and double page spread• Attracts the fans of the cover star to the magazine if they flick

through to the contents page

Page numbers

• Page numbers are present to if people are looking for a particular article in the magazine they can find it more quickly

• If they like the sound of a cover line or want to know more about an image they can go straight to that page

List of some of the pages in the magazine

• Shows people what is in the magazine, this can encourage them to buy if they want to read the articles/interviews mentioned

• Can help people find their way around the magazine• Only selected pages, that are the most interesting ones

Message form the editor

• About 100 words, which means people will actually read it as it isn't too long

• Makes the magazine seem more personal and friendly which will attract the target audience, which is teenage girls, as they will feel the magazine is more relatable

• Signed off at the end with a signature not a typed name as this again make the magazine more personal

• Talks about what is going on in the world recently which makes it up to date and gives a bit of information about what is in the magazine

the most likely to attract the target audience• Page numbers included with them, so people can fine the pages in

the magazine

Poster band at the bottom of the page

• Bold band at the bottom of the page with picture on it which are posters in the magazine

• Gold star, Puff included to make the contents page more visual

• At the bottom• To pull people to their website• The website will attract a wider audience and the audience is

more likely to be the same as the target audience as teenagers always use the internet

Double page spread

It is about the Cover star

• The double page spread is about the cover star• A popular celebrity will be interviewed because this

attracts their fans as they can find out more about there idol from questions asked

Name of the artist

• Names of the artist at the stop of the page• Allows fans of the artists to know their idol is in the magazine

Picture of the cover star

• A large picture of the cover star• Takes up a large part or all of one page• The picture shows their personality, e.g. fun, sexy or

serous• The shot is either a medium shot or a medium wide

shot

Extra photos added in

• An extra picture added in to the text, to break up all the writing

• Incudes a caption

Important text indicated

• Important text is highlighted either as a font option of there is a graphic behind it

• Interviewers questions are in a different colour so they can distinguish between, what the interviewer said and what the celebrity said

Drop capitals

• Drop capitals at the start of the interview or article• Normally in another font or in italics • The size of about 5-7 normal lines

The Text is in columns

• Each page is split into 3 columns• There can be text on either one page or both pages

A big pull quote

• A large pull quote is at the top of one of the pages, normally on the left page

• In a large font• In a different front to the rest of the page• Easy to read and stands out, will be the first thing the reader reads

so it will have to be interesting and they will want to find out more as this is how you will attract the reader

Graphics

• Graphics like these red boxes that are at an angle to help frame text and draw the eye to certain parts of the page

• Make the double page spread more visually interesting

• Web site address and page number at the bottom of the page in the right hand corner
