MY CHOSEN TV DRAMA
• My chosen TV drama is the American series Grimm, produced by GK productions, and is set in Portland, Oregon.
• Grimm is based on a modern day interpretation of the Grimm’s fairy tales, and is centred around how detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) sees strange visions of; seemingly regular people, momentarily transforming into hideous monsters
• The series began in 2011 and is continuing into present day, there have been four seasons so far.
• Genres which Grimm consists of: Drama, fantasy, horror and mystery.

MISE-EN-SCENE
I have chosen to look at the character of Sean Renard as it is clear that there is a point trying to be made about how successful he is. He is always seen wearing a suit and tie and occasionally a long coat. From this we can see he is being represented as an important character and has a lot of status/authority.
Additionally, the character of the captain shows class and status as he is high up in terms of how much authority he has; for example, he’s in charge of the entire police department; therefore showing his power over the other officers.
ZEITGEIST
In this scene, Monroe, is speaking on his phone, this clearly represents today’s era because it is a piece of modern technology.
REPRESENTATION OF GENDER• For the representation of gender I have decided to look closely at the character of
Adalind. I have chosen her because in TV drama shows women tend to either have a quieter role or the lead role of “hero”, however, in Grimm she is portrayed as a strong, powerful villain. As this doesn’t stick to a stereotype of a “normal” gender role, I feel it is important to pay attention to her.
Often, Adalind is seen taking on the lead role of a villain and taking control from people to use against them.
