What is the Integrated Maritime Policy
• The GDP per inhabitant in the coastal regions 24 294 eur (2005) and some 5 million work in maritime sectors
• Almost 90 % of the EU external trade and 40 % of the
EU’s internal trade is seaborne
• There are more than 1200 ports in the EU coastal regions, handling some 400 million passengers and 3.500 billion tonnes cargo
• Coastal regions have some 9600 hotel units and 3000 marinas
