Batman: Hush9781401223175

This has nothing to do with the movie.Batman Incorporated9781401232122 Think "It's a Small World" but with Batmen.

Argentinian Batman.

Motorcycle. Bandana. Mustache.

So what about DC's New 52?

You've seen the ads. But there are titles that stand out other than Action Comics and Batman.

Animal ManVolume 1: The Hunt9781401235079 It's horror meets superheroes. His daughter reanimates dead animals.

Resurrection Man

Volume 1: Dead Again9781401235291 The human Roulette Wheel of superpowers. But not Dial H, that's without all the dying.

But I don't like superheroes!

That's fine, there's more. Because American comics are diverse.

Do you like reinterpreted fairy tales?

You know, like Once Upon a Time, Grimm, Mirror Mirror, or Snow White and the Huntsman?

FablesVolume 1: Legends in Exile9781401237554Volume 2: Animal Farm 9781401200770

completely, totally, seriously, because you love teens in wacky supernatural situations, you might like...

RunawaysVolume 1: Pride & Joy9780785157328Volume 2: Teenage Wasteland9780785157335

If you like Harry Potter...In a snooty intellectual way, you might like...

The UnwrittenVolume 1: Tommy Taylor and the Bogus Identity9781401225650Volume 2: Inside Man 9781401228736

If you like vampires...

Or any kind of intelligent, well-written conceptual horror...

American Vampire

Zombies?

Marvel Zombies. Not necessarily a recommendation. I just really like this picture.

The Walking Dead (duh)

Volume 1: Days Gone Bye9781582406725Volume 2: Miles Behind Us9781582407753 Yes, there's a show on AMC, but the comic is really, really good, and the stories aren't subject to budget cuts.

If you liked Lost...

(Or really, really, really wanted to like Lost but WTF was up with that church scene?)

Morning GloriesVolume 1: For a Better Future9781607063193Volume 2: All Will Be Free 9781607064077

What if you actually like superheroes?

But wanted something different?

Well, if you like battle manga...You know, like Dragonball Z or Bleach...

Who to read

Creators are often overshadowed by the characters and titles they work on, mostly because the most popular comics are owned by corporations and the writers and artists on those are thought to be interchangeable. But there are some creators whose names can sell a book.

Neil Gaiman

Themes: Dark fantasy, horror, mythology ● Sandman● Books of Magic● Whatever Happened

to the Caped Crusader?

● Marvel 1602● Eternals

Ed Brubaker

Themes: Crime, noir, spy ● Criminal● Sleeper● Gotham Central● Incognito● Captain America

Warren EllisThemes: Cyberpunk, futurism ● Transmetropolitan● Global Frequency● Thunderbolts● Planetary● Nextwave

What not to read

Aka RUN RUN FAR AWAY

Watchmen

And anything by Alan Moore in general, really.

The Dark Knight Returns

Let's say the same for Frank Miller's work too.

Joss Whedon No, really. You'll probably regret it. (But the Avengers was so good! And Buffy! And Firefly! And Dr. Horrible!)

Those were movies and TV.

Those were good. His comics... not so much.

I realize that this page here might have actually convinced some of you to read this comic. I apologize in advance.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
