Dear Friends,

I am writing to you after several months of furloughs We have been able tovisit some of you and hoping to visit others soon, as we begin to travel againafter a few months of being settled here in Seattle. Because of the trouble inthe Suez and the anti-British feeling that has resulted, we are to operate untoAmerican air registration for awhile, and that has meant that John needed to getAmerican licenses to augment the British ones he is already holding. A door wasopened for him to study for the necessary exams here in Seattle and we praisethe Lor^ for all the way He has provided for us here. ^Ihile this has not beenexactly a rest, especially for John, it has been a time of enjoying a home ofoxir own and for this we are very thankful; Mary and Elizabeth vrere needing thisgreatly, "Home" is a furnished apartment in a housing project, and all our linens and pans and things have been loaned to us by loving Christian friends. Someof these same friends have taken us in their car whenever a medical appointmenthas been necessary, and this has been a tremendous help, since Mary has developed an allergy and has had to see the doctor numerous times. How we are seeing aspecialist and feel hopeful that Mary will not always be troubled by a snifflynose and cough,

IJe expect to leave Seattle August 15th and hope to visit in Eugene and tobe in Elkton for a week or so. After that we will travel do\m through Californiastopping at Red Bluff, Livermore, and San Francisco, and then spend two or threeweeks in Los Angeles where John is to do a special flight course. Then we hopeto visit my older brother in Austin, Texas, and my sister in Arlington, Virginiaas we travel eastward to keep our booking on the "Maasdam" which is to take us toGreat Britain for a final tour of deputation and Christmas with John's mother. We expect to travel on to the Sudan in Januaiy. Sometimes, as we listen to thenews and think on all the happenings of the world, we can't help thinlcing theLord may have come before then, and it is a wonderful and solemn thought; wonderful because we know the joy it will be to be with Him, and solemn, because soniany may not be ready, and how terrible that will be. We just must see that thisdoes not happen to any who have been entrusted to us. Brethren, pray for us I

If there are those along our way who would like meetings, we would like tohear from you and will "fit you in" if it is possible. As well as telling aboutour work, we have two colored movie films that help in visualizing what we haveto say. Some question the validity of our work, since M, A, F. (Missionary Aviation Fellowship) serves all Protestant evangelical missions. As you know, noteveryone believes the same about baptism, Vfe are in M. A. F. because we believethat it is the Lord's will for us to be there and that we must do His will andtrust Him to work out His own pxirposes, V/e do believe in baptism as the Scriptures teach it, but many of our own people seem actually to put their faith in

baptism, rather than in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is our only Savior. It isHis saving grace that must keep, must save us day by day, and if He is not realto us, then our baptism will get us nowhere; it is not a ticket to heaven. Itseems significant to us that no new missionary groups are allowed to come intothe Sudan. Those who are already there hold the only possibility of getting thegood news of Jesus Christ to the people. We rejoice in this place of servicethe Lord has given us, and also in His promises, and believe truly that v/hereHis Word is sown, precious souls will be won.

liay God bless you and keep you faithful as you serve Him daily in the placeof His choosing for you.
