REVO®-EALL-ELECTRIC ROOFTOP UNIT
For some time now public transport operators
have been gaining experience with hybrid
or even pure electrobuses in daily operation.
However, the power supply, incl. all hungry
secondary consumers still poses key chal-
lenges.
A new world – for air conditioning as well
With changing conditions for the bus, the world
for its components, in particular the air condi-
tioning system, has drastically changed. Large
rooftop units that draw from an unlimited
supply of diesel-generated energy are a thing
of the past. New solutions must be found, and
Say goodbye to dieSeL
awareness must be acquired for a completely
new form of energy management. This in-
cludes a holistic view of all required energy
flows for heating and cooling, as well as their
optimum control. the goal is comprehensive
thermal management and energy-efficient
vehicle operation.
Prelude for the environment
We call it ‘preconditioning’ when the bus is
pre-heated after a long night so that it can
start off at an optimum temperature. the
energy required for preconditioning the bus is
disproportionately greater than for maintaining
the temperature while on the move. the latter
is an extremely eco-friendly practice.
it is implemented using an off-board electric
power supply – in other words electricity
from the socket.
ReVo®-e:
a member of the Valeo
hybrid family, also for trolley
or electrobuses
behind the broad smile of our new ReVo®-e
is an easy-going relationship to existing
energy resources. its highly efficient individual
components with an intelligent control concept
result in a holistic thermal management
system. in conjunction with optimization
potential in the bus and the prediction of the
route ahead, energy consumption for heating
and cooling can be cut considerably.
Why the components communicate
the name we give to demand-driven control
is ‘load-synchronous thermal management’.
its purpose is to coordinate communications
between all components and to integrate them
into the bus’s overall operating system. they
will then always operate at the optimum level,
depending on the driving profile and available
energy.
The battery also likes it cool
When a bus of the future is equipped with
numerous energy storage units, these batteries
want to be kept at an optimum temperature to
ensure perfect functioning. We have been able
to integrate this type of battery cooling in the
ReVo®-e – a mainstay of the bus of the future.

The compressor makes an exit
the past generation of compressors was
located at the rear. that has all changed in
the latest era of bus drive technology and
the compressor now occupies an extremely
compact position on the roof, in close proximity
to the components that implement its cooling
capacity. this has obvious advantages and due
to the integration of all refrigerant-conducting
components the closed system is more
efficient, leak-proof and virtually maintenance-
free. our patented vibration isolation of the
compressor round off the system.
this is a key result of our development activities
for the ReVo®-e, and we are proud of it.
An air conditioning unit that supplies heat
you understood it correctly! the ReVo®-e is
designed to be operated, if required, as a heat
pump by reverse circulation. For this purpose it
uses the energy from the surrounding air and
can efficiently warm the passenger compart-
ment with low power consumption, even at
moderate outside temperatures.
