ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENT ROBOT

General Feature

Made by: Sony (Japan)

Height: 27cm

Short Name: AIBO

SPECIFIC TECHNOLOGY

AIBO is the pet robot. It is

a dog. If you want to have

pet, but you have some

problems, this robot is a

good choice for you.

AIBO SENSES

• Touch - Feels human

contact through sensors on

head, back, chin & paws.

• Hearing - Detects sound through a pair of

stereo microphones, voice recognition.

AIBO SENSES

• Sight - Color camera, distance

sensors and facial recognition.

AIBO SENSES

• Balance - Keeps balance through acceleration sensors.

AIBO SENSES

SPECIAL SENSE

AIBO possesses 5 basic instincts

Love

Search

Movement

Recharge

Sleep

SPACIAL FEATURE

• Each AIBO begins life as a newborn puppy, over

time it will develop its own unique personality based

upon how it is raised.

• AIBO likes to dance & play with his toys - An AIBOne

and pink ball, he also likes to perform tricks with

them.

When AIBO is low on power he

will seek out his energy station

on his own.

SPACIAL FEATURE

AIBO can take photos on command

or whenever he chooses to, these

can be sent via email or stored on his

memory card.

AIBO can look after your

house when you are away,

he can detect movement

and sound, taking a picture

and notifying you via email.

SPACIAL FEATURE

As well as voice recognition,

you can also communicate to

AIBO using his graphics

cards, these are useful when

the surroundings are noisy.

HISTORY

AIBO is an iconic series of robotic pets designed

and manufactured by Sony.

Announced in mid-1998.

The first consumer model was introduced on

May 11, 1999.

AIBOs were marketed for domestic use as

"Entertainment Robots”

Research into robotics and human-robot

interaction.

WHAT APPLICATIONS (USES) ARE THERE NOW FOR YOUR SPECIFIC TECHNOLOGY?

AIBOs could learn whatever name you give your

AIBO, with built-in voice recognition.

AIBO could learn up to thousand words and talk

back to you in a special AIBO tonal language.

AIBO has a built in camera.

AIBO was a flagship for Sony technologies

with historical early use of: memory sticks, a

proprietary embedded operating system, and

advanced robotics technology.

NEWS

Robotic Dog Expresses Joy, Sorrow

“A dog-shaped robot that uses sensors and preprogrammed

software to mimic the gestures and habits of real dogs went on

sale on June 1. Named Aibo, the four-legged robot developed by

Sony Corp. has proven to be a big hit, selling out just 20 minutes

after the manufacturer began accepting orders over the Internet.”

“In Japan, 3,000 units were put on sale exclusively over

the Internet for 250,000 yen each, and another 2,000

were made available in the United States, where they

carried a 2,500-dollar price tag.”

“Best geek toy ever”

“The Sony Aibo was a remarkable piece of robotic

technology, especially considering it first appeared way back

in 1999. The robot dog was an example of robotics that was

released to regular consumers, at least those who could

afford one. An Aibo with supporting accessories could easily

top the $2,000 mark, and that was back when that kind of

money meant something.”

In the future

IN THE FUTURE

This research achieves the goal of performing the

task of recognizing different objects based on the

features possessed by the objects. The research

can be expanded to include noisy environments

that algorithms that adapt to the noise.

IN THE FUTURE

In gesture recognition we have worked with static

gestures and they can be expanded to include

dynamic gestures.

This was done with a view to minimize

computational pressure on AIBO.

IN THE FUTURE

The applications developed can be considered as providing a means of using AIBO as an educational tool exhibiting intelligent behavior to encourage learning among youngsters.

Watching AIBO solve mathematical expressions, or reading sentences and replying to them or reacting to gestures can be used to make learning fun for kids.

These behaviors can be extended to include learning the alphabet and reading sentences. AIBO can store a knowledge base of sentences and can answer questions posed to it.

Using these applications as a base, AIBO has the ability to learn and simulate intelligence in a variety of situations.

IN THE FUTURE

AIBO can be efficiently used to perform complex

tasks that can simulate or exhibit intelligence.

AIBO is also an ideal platform to showcase these

tasks because of its status as an entertainment dog.
