“My creativity is a reflection of who I am. Craftiness is happiness.” Another busy day for the Branch—welcome Crafters and
members—enjoy the time to look around and hopefully purchase some gifts
The leaves have just started to turn. Every day I see
changes as I drive around Scarborough. By the time we
end the month, it will be a colourful picture of swirling leaves.
Brigitte and Yvonne have been working, this past month,
on the plans for Gifts for Kids in November. Again, we will be supporting 42 Division. It doesn’t seem possible
that we are thinking of Christmas already!
There is no news from the Provincial office. We welcome Anne Wilde, Provincial Insurance Convenor, to our
luncheon today. She has a short presentation and then
will answer your questions. Remember, the OPEN ENROLLMENT ends on November 15.
It is also time to purchase your Christmas cakes and
shortbread. Kiwanis will take your order today and then bring back your orders at the November meeting.
Enjoy the day. Your support is appreciated by your
Executive.
Grace For food in a world
Where many walk in hunger For faith in a world
Where many walk in fear For fellowship
Where many walk alone We give Thee thanks,
O God Amen

Experience the acclaimed new production of the legendary
musical Miss Saigon, from the creators of Les
Misérables. This is the story of a young
Vietnamese woman named Kim who is
orphaned by war and forced to work in a bar
run by a notorious character known as the
Engineer. There she meets and falls in love with
an American G.I. named Chris, but they are
torn apart by the fall of Saigon. For 3 years, Kim goes on an
epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who
has no idea he's fathered a son. This is a theatrical event you
will never forget.
Due to popular demand, direct from
Las Vegas, “Oh What a Night” is
joining “Four by Four” in a
powerhouse musical revue. You’ll enjoy hits from the dynamic
songbook of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons as well as the
Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Bee Gees and Motown all in
Show! The Stellar performers sing and dance to the hot songs
in fully-choregraphed musical numbers.

ALLERGIES AND DIET RESTRICTIONS:
If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, it is important that we know about these so that accommodations can be made for you. We need to have the information BEFORE the luncheon. Please call Shelley Goodman at 416-491-1683 or e-mail her at shelley.goodman@sympatico.ca to let her know about these allergies or restrictions. She will confirm the change with you once you have advised her. If fruit for dessert is the only change you require, then you will not have to inform her every month. This will be done automatically. BIG SMOKE GENTLEMEN
The Big Smoke Gentlemen is a trio of talented and experienced musicians who have all played in various bands over the years. The members of the band are Robert Laing playing guitar and harmonica and singing lead vocals, Gary Meyer playing lead guitar and Tom McCreight keeping the beat on the upright bass. Gary and Tom are both retired educators who have traded their chalk for musical instruments. The band plays an eclectic mix of music and they are looking forward to playing songs from a number of genres as well as a selection of Christmas music. Program Committee

JUST PLAIN NEAT INFORMATION..... The roar that we hear when we place a seashell next to our ear is not the ocean, but rather the sound of blood surging through the veins in the ear. Nine out of every 10 living things live in the ocean. The banana cannot reproduce itself. It can be propagated only by the hand of man. Airports at higher altitudes require a longer airstrip due to lower air density. The University of Alaska spans four time zones. The tooth is the only part of the human body that cannot heal itself. Your tongue is the only muscle in your body that is attached at only one end.
In Ancient Greece, tossing an apple to a girl was a traditional proposal of marriage. Catching it meant she accepted. GIFTS FOR KIDS
It’s that time of year again for the annual “Gifts for Kids” drive. For those members wishing to participate, please bring an unwrapped gift (newborn to 16 years) including the gender and age of the child, to the Tuesday, November 19, 2019 luncheon. Teenagers are often short changed. Some ideas for gifts for them are hoodies, basketballs, baseballs, volleyballs, cosmetic kits and gift cards. Generic gift cards are ideal because they lend a lot of flexibility as to where they are used. Following the luncheon, we will deliver the gifts to 42 Division of the Toronto Police Service (located at Markham Road and Milner Avenue). We would appreciate the assistance of at least 4 drivers to help us deliver the gifts. Yvonne Tait and I will take names of volunteer drivers at the October 15, 2019 luncheon. Through the generosity of RWTO Scarborough many more families will have a brighter holiday season. Please let Yvonne Tait or Brigitte Bryan know if you are willing to help with the delivery of the gifts. Constable Allison Burns and her colleague, Auxiliary Officer Fanny Lau, from 42 Division, will join us at our November luncheon. You will hear about where the gifts are distributed. In addition, representatives of RWTO have been invited to the 42 Division “Gifts for Kids Kick Off” on November 3, to speak about the charitable work done by RWTO. Brigitte & Yvonne
KIWANIS SALES The representatives from Kiwanis will be at the October luncheon to take orders for their Christmas cakes, nuts and other products. You may place your order then
and they will be delivered during the November luncheon. You will pay for your order when you collect your items in November.
Just a Quick Reminder…
The Branch always appreciates your support and truly wants to make your luncheon experience fun. Your help and understanding is needed to ensure that our luncheons are organized and ready for you.
Note the due date that your cheque must reach the treasurer’s mailbox. We are unable to accept CASH.
If your cheque does not reach Chris on time, a lunch will not be ordered for you.
Why not leave a cheque for the next luncheon as you leave The Estate. Many of us do.
If you can’t come to a luncheon, for which you paid, contact Chris Elliot as soon as possible and let her know.
If you do not let Chris know before the Friday deadline, your cheque will be cashed. There will be no exceptions! The Branch must pay for all lunches that have been ordered.
Please do not just show up for a luncheon. The Estate has requested that there be no last-minute extra table set up. The number of tables and meals ordered are planned and set a week before the luncheon. Treasurer: Linda Jarvis linjar@rogers.com Luncheon Cheques: Chris Elliott brambleberry21@gmail.com

helps to support…
BREAKFAST FOR KIDS For the past few years we have supported the RTO golf tournament by sponsoring two holes. The Gold Tournament raises money for the BREAKFAST FOR KIDS program. Three schools are chosen each year through their donation. There are 820 programs running at 620 sites in the city of Toronto. Our commitment to this program lets children know that we care about their health and well-being. Last year’s tournament resulted in a donation to the nutrition programs in Scarborough and East York schools in both the Catholic and Public-school systems.
JULLIETTE’S PLACE provides a safe and short-term shelter for women and children who flee from violence and abuse. Their program helps women and children build their skills through educational programs and support services. Our donations of toiletries, baby items, school supplies and seasonal sports equipment continue to be greatly appreciated by Julliette’s Place.
42 DIVISION COMMUNITY POLICE service the area bounded by Steeles, south to the 401, Victoria Park, to the Pickering Town Line. PC Gomez has shared valuable information with us about Crime Prevention at our luncheon. PC Alison Burns works with us to make sure that our toy donations, at our November luncheon, are distributed in the area to families with children in need at Christmas time.
ONTARIO AUTISM PROGRAM The OAP provides families of children and youth with ASD with flexible, family-centred services based on each child’s unique needs. At their annual Christmas party, the families enjoy a visit and gifts from Santa and Mrs. Claus, games, crafts, food, photos, and entertainment for the whole family! A number of our members have volunteered as helpers.
