When did the African Slaves Arrive to the US? What was their method ?
They came chained up in
boats. They were the slaves that were brought in trough
the middle passage.
What kicked them out and brought them here?
They were forced in to the USA, by slave traders.
Where did they settle ?Why did they chose this area?
Most were brought to North America. They were sold to farmers in Virginia,
Maryland and the Carolinas. They worked in cotton fields in their
owners plantation.
How where they treated by this area?
The North respected the immigrants but the slavery was in the South.
To become free men or women they had to escape to the North.
African Americans that were free were ready for war but were rejected at first.
At the end they were accepted in the list.
What job’s did they find? Why did they do this job
The slaves picked cotton for their plantation master.
The cotton gin was used to clean the cotton (take the seeds off).
They had to listen to there master or else they were beaten sometimes almost to death.
How did the slave impact life in the US?
They impacted life because they helped the economy.
They also impacted life because the Civil War was fought for the freedom of slaves.
It was America’s deadliest war North vs. South
Did they assimilate to the society?
This group did assimilate into the US society. It took some time but they did.
They were accepted as slaves had to work for food and shelter.
Where could you find evidence of this group in Los Angeles? Where is their community set up at ?
African Americans are found in every place.
They live in New York, Florida, Illinois etc.
They live everywhere in the US we could say they assimilated everywhere.
Some places are South Central, Watts, Compton.
Conclusion
They were mistreated in the south but they had their small rights in the North.
In the south they were forced to work or if they didn’t they would get whipped sometimes till death.
Their still fighting for better right's. They are trying to make their life better. They have HOPE, they BELIVE and they
want CHANGE in their life's.
My better place
Cotton is hurtful to pick ,my fingers bleeding ,my lips dry, I’m hungry ,thirsty ,and tired. Hands fell numb want
to run away to a better place. My body sweaty, back burns and its bloody. I want to run away to a better
place.
My master has beaten me. He has killed me. Now I know were my better place is and how it feels. I’m with
GOD happy not hungry nor tired or hurt. Hands not sweaty nor bleeding clean and soft , stomach full. My
happiness and my better place came to me over night.
The cotton is now picked, clean and white no blood ,seeds nor tears.
