SOS Children’s Villages in Greece…
& the implementation of Aflatoun Programme
What we do in Greece
• We have been active in Greece since 1979
• We operate programs in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion Crete, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli and Komotini
• We provide help to 2,900
children and 1,300 families
What is done in SOS CV Greece
• Summer 2013 – agreement of cooperation between SOS CV Greece and Aflatoun
• Translation of Aflatoun material into Greek• Aflatoun programme presentation and two days training were
arranged for 11 SOS pedagogues/tutors • 2013 – 2014, implementation of Aflatoun training in 2 SOS villages
and 6 SOS Social Centers, in 6 cities • Children from SOS villages participated together with kids from the
local community • Total number of children who participated 102
Outcomes & scale of the programme...
• SOS CV children participated in the training together with kids from local communities which created “bridges” (i.e. new friendships) and functioned against institutionalization
• SOS children learned how to use resources responsibly, make budgets and save
• Implementation of Aflatoun training in SOS Family Strengthening Programs focusing in prevention and aiming to support children in families in crisis
