WikiSpace

WikispaceA classroom wikispace will provide an area for students to practice collaboration, state literacy standards, and digital responsibility.

Wikispace will be a place for students to collaborate on completing projects. Students will be able to share and post their contribution to a project and have it reviewed by peers. The collaboration process will reinforce time management skills and personal responsibility.

Wikispace Wikispace will also provide a space for students to practice State Literacy Standards.

❏They can also include narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective writing techniques.

❏Students can also clearly and accurately analysis of content.

WikipediaThe use of a Wikispace will create an avenue for the use of Wikipedia in the classroom.

The usage of Wikipedia in the classroom will reinforce the meaning of digital responsibility and digital citizenship.

Wikispace Ideas 1.Classroom Wikispace

2.Open Notebook

Wikispace and ProjectsFormation of Government Students are given the task to create and manage a fictional Country. Students will be given daily tasks and narratives to complete. Additional information on types of governments, purpose of government, and functions of government will be answered by groups. All groups will be able to view the information.

Students will use Wikispace to collaborate on project tasks, post reflections, and share projects.

The open access to information will help reinforce students understanding and knowledge of content.

Wikispace Open NotebookStudents will use the Classroom Wikispace to create an open notebook for content.

This ongoing Open notebook will allow students to collaborate, share, and discuss curriculum.

This resource will allow students who missed information to access course content. Students will be responsible for updating and maintaining information.

Student content will be reviewed for accuracy.

The information shared on the Open notebook will be a guide for class discussions and assignments.

Twitter

TwitterTwitter can be a powerful tool in the classroom. Many high school students are proficient in the usage of Twitter.

This tool can be used to guide classroom discussions and allow students to express themselves.

Twitter can promote writing skills and be used as a research tool.

TwitterMainly, Twitter will promote a classroom community and culture .

A community of thinkers, writers, and responders that will work together to complete learning objectives.

Using Twitter will allow students to contribute to the classroom community in a new way. Students will also have a familiar platform to communicate their ideas, values, and expressions.

Twitter Ideas 1.#hashtag assignment

2.Summary tool

Twitter#hastag assignmentThis assignment will address the General Election and Local Elections.

Students will use the class #hashtag to create a summary of the Election cycle. Tweets will be reviewed and used for class discussions.

Information will be recorded and applied to election material already created for the course.

Summary/Exit ticketsStudents will use the concept of Twitter to express their understanding and knowledge of course content.

Summaries will be limited to 140 characters.

The best summaries will be posted on the classroom Tweet board.

Presentation Tools

Presentation Tools Students today are not limited to power point as their presentation tool. Today, the resources for presentation tools can feel unlimited.

Students can present information in multiple formats; including video, animation, multimedia posters, and interactive slides.

Students can use presentation tools to share information on projects, assignments, and formative assessments.

Presentation tools allow students to express their creativity in additional to their knowledge and understanding of information.

Presentation Tools to be usedTools to be used by students to present their projects, assignments, and formative assessments include:

➢ Google Slides○ High school students are proficient and create effective presentations.

➢ Kizoa○ Online tool for creating video and slideshows. Easy to use and allows users to edit

photos.

➢ Prezi○ Creative way to add “WOW” factor to slide show presentation.

➢ Powtoon○ Online presentation tool for creating animated slideshows. Students will find it

simplistic to use and a creative way to present information.

Presentation Ideas

1.Multimedia Collage/Poster

2.Political Cartoon assignment

Presentation IdeasMultimedia Collage/PosterStudents will use an online tool to create a Collage or Poster of responsibilities and duties of citizenship as it pertains to them. This is a reflection assignment to connect the ideas to students lives.

Students may use programs including Google Draw, Google Slides, kizoa, or other multimedia sites upon approval.

Political Cartoon AssignmentStudents will gather information on political cartoons and present their findings using a presentation tool.

Political Cartoons need to be cited and sourced.

Students may elect to create their own political cartoon on a topic of their choosing.

Podcasts

PodcastsPodcast are great educational tools. Podcast can allow students access to educational topics and the ability to review material at any time.

Teachers can use Podcast to help auditory learners better understand the content and target their learning style.

Podcasts can include audio and video content. Podcast that work well in the classroom include: NPR, TED Talks, Crash Course, and Khan Academy.

PodcastTeachers may also elect to use Podcast to record their own knowledge and understanding of content for students.

Many classrooms come equipped with SmartBoard technology. The technology allows teachers to record their audio and screen.

This has become a helpful tool in my classroom when I am teaching reviewing content in group activities or when I am absent.

Podcast Ideas1.Current Event assignment

2.Candidate interview activity

Podcasts IdeasCurrent Event Assignment

Students will review current events using NPR, TED Talks, or another podcast.

Current events will be summarized and shared with classmates.

Candidate Interview

Students will prepare interview questions for Candidates running for national and local office.

This can be a fictional interview, but questions and answers will address real issues pertaining to current election cycle.

Students will record their conversation in a podcast form using audio or video.

Completed assignments will be shared.

Research Tools

Research Tools for the ClassroomThere are a variety of research tools available to student for completing assignments. The problem students are faced with is the academic integrity of the content.

Students will want to search Google and write down the first piece of information they find. Teachers need to reinforce good research methodology, and practice with students to identify academic material.

Research Tools Online Bookmarks are a powerful tool for teachers to use when reinforcing research practices. Diigo has been an useful tool for helping students explore and investigating academic material.

Diigo has the ability to allow the teacher the create a space with approved material. It also allows the teacher to annotate material for students.

Students will also find Diigo helpful, since they can contribute to the bookmarking tool. They can add their own research, and the teacher can verify the academic value.

Online Bookmark Idea 1)Ongoing Conversation

Ongoing ConversationStudents are always bringing in new material for me to review, or ask if I have seen this.

The online bookmark Diigo tool will give students the access to post material into a shared space.

I plan on using this tool to help students understand the current election cycle. Students can post information they find to the bookmark and share the information.

I will review content as it is posted and use the students content to generate classroom discussions, or expand on additional teaching points.

Conclusion

ConclusionThe Web 2.0 Tools chosen for the classroom will require time and effort to integrate into the curriculum. I plan on integrating Tools into already prepared material, and I believe this can be accomplished.
