Set a Goal and Timeline
When setting up your fundraiser, include a goal and a timeline. This incentivizes viewers to donate toward a common milestone.
Plan Your Campaign
YouTube Giving is a powerful tool for bringing more good to the world
— especially when you utilize these best practices.
Choose the Right Moment
Consider launching your campaign during times of increased awareness around your cause or charitable giving in general, like Pride Month or Giving Week. You can also make your own perfect moment, as ItsJudysLife does with their annual #Dancember fundraiser.
Share The “Why”
People with an emotional connection to a cause are more likely to donate, so share why the cause is important to you and remind viewers that any amount goes a long way. Marshmello and Hope for Paws teamed up to support animals in need and shared a moving story of volunteers rescuing a pit bull.

Share Donations’ Impact
Explain (or even better, show!) how nonprofits will utilize donations to make a real-world impact. In his video supporting the #TeamTrees mission to raise $20M by 2020, Mark Rober showed how each dollar raised would be used to plant a tree and the impact this would have on the environment.
Direct Viewers to the Donate Button
Encourage your fans to use the “Donate” button with a specific call-to-action, as Rhett & Link did in their video in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Gamify Giving
Whether it’s with goals, milestones, or other incentives, use your unique voice to make the act of giving fun and interactive. For example, during a livestream, ItsFunneh wrote names of those who donated on a board live as donations came in!

Collaborate With Your Creator Community
Increase your impact by making your fundraiser “joinable” when you set it up, and invite fellow creators to produce their own videos for the cause or guest star on your channel.
The #TeamTrees campaign connected over 600 YouTube creators who joined the cause to plant 20M trees by 2020. By working together, they hit their goal and raised $20M in just 52 days!
Spread The Word
Share your cause by posting about it across social media and linking to your video. When The Try Guys launched their fundraiser for The Trevor Project with a powerful video titled “I’m Gay - Eugene Lee Yang,” the video trended across social media and raised over $50,000 in only 24 hours.
Eugene’s new YouTube vid is amazing. Just donated to the charity he’s supporting. Thank you, Eugene!
