Engage Your VolunteersMike Brazier
Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/ Madison County
Define Your Program
• Decide what you want to be – Ribbon cutting brigade Or – Personal and professional
developmental program
Choose Your Leadership
• Leadership committee should be a cross section of your Volunteer population.
• Let this committee have buy-in, let them help you mold your program but always remain strong and do not let them take over!
• ALWAYS run the meeting based on the agenda you set.
Provide Value!!
• Everything in these volunteer programs should be centered around value for the volunteer. – Ask them what they need– Focus on the fact, there is strength in numbers – Have your Ambassadors (in their own words) tell
others how the program has benefited them.• Promote how to be a “connector”, a servant
leader who helps others without seeking anything in return.
Retention, Retention, Retention!!!
• These programs naturally turn into a strong retention program.
• You’ll use them to convey the positive message of what the Chamber does for the community.
• Each meeting is a chance to imbed those nuggets of information.
New Member Round-up!
• After you have developed a strong program with knowledgeable volunteers who believe in the Chamber, use it to implement a membership drive, a “New Member Round-up”.
Power of Volunteers: Over 160 Volunteers = Over 1,000
