Help! I’ve been abducted byWriters!

By Mathew Korni

When I first began…. “I knew that in a long essay that this kind of writing must be have been very hard to read. Sometimes I fell

asleep reading my papers” (Matthew Korni, Post 09/02/11)

Then I was abducted by writers…“I realized that many industries

(almost all of them) would not be possible without the tons of raw materials that are taken from the earth every day. In that mindset, I

realize that it is important to take care of the earth, if only to further promote

industry and societal growth” (Matthew Korni, Post 09/23/011).

I used my words to be expressive and to learn about the planet. I

used writing to change my whole point of view. I learned that writing should be an experience of growth

and learning.

Recycling… “I had just started recycling more this year. Before this discussion

though, I only did it when I saw a recycling bin. Now I am beginning to

think that I should do it in my apartment and maybe try to encourage

my roommate and friends to do the same. I never realized the damage we are doing by throwing our garbage in

regular garbage cans” (Matthew Korni, Post 10/21/11.

Landfills… “It takes years, maybe even centuries for some of the garbage to decompose and it

pollutes the air that we breath as well as marring the landscape with

these big ugly dumps” (Mathew Korni, Post 10/21/11).

I began to analyze the literature that was out there in regards to the Environment. I found that

some really good writers had some really important things to say. I used my understanding of this

literature to better my own writing and to further develop my ideas

about the environment.

“Save the Whales, Screw the Shrimp.” by Joy Williams

My Analysis was… “I think the title of Williams ‘essay could have been

“Please ourselves, Screw Nature.” We need to take care of what we have and do away with our excessive greed and

needs, and educate ourselves on nature because we all benefit from it.”

(Matthew Korni, Post 10/19/11)

Wall-E

I built upon what I had realized about the nature of our

society…My Analysis of Wall-E is a reflection of that

Mass Consumerism… “…Buy n’ Large represents the government and large corporations who advertise products

to consumers and allow waste to cover the earth without consequences. The

people and events on the space station represent the dramatic results

of this careless consumption” (Matthew Korni, Post 11/28/11).

I came to a more daunting conclusion about how a lack of

concern for how our social practices affect the earth....

Landfill Leaks….hard to clean and detect, and damaging

Obesity is increasing among children and young adults, yearly.

Environmental Issues go beyond the environment… “...people need to change. We are the only ones who can change our

eating and living habits, and companies who promote bulk consumerism need to gain a conscience. They need to realize that many of the things that they sell to

consumers are not good for their health or the environment” (Matthew Korni, Post

No I’m back on Earth….

After being abducted by Writer’s, I’ve learned that, while grammar and

structure are essential to getting your point across. Reading and really being

allowed the chance to think and reflect about what you write are important pit stops on the way to becoming a

great writer and making a difference.
