Every Indian learner desires a

chance to receive the highest quality

The aim of this project is to develop

useful Open Source applications and

contents for different versions of the

tablet.

These will range from animations to

scientific computing, and will

encompass the entire educational

spectrum covering schools, colleges,

and professional studies.

The Power of Thinking

Effective use of Information andCommunication Technologies helps insignificantly addressing these twinissues.

Aakash Tablet, launched byGovernment of India, is emerging as akey Information CommunicationTechnology (ICT) tool for this purpose.

When used in conjunction with thehigh speed network of NKN (NationalKnowledge Network)

Aakash has a great potential tobecome a universal and effective ICT(Information and Communication Tool)tool for students and teachers.

Aakash project at IIT Bombay isdedicated to the development ofuseful applications and contents foruse with Aakash. It attempts toempower teachers by using a uniqueblend of technology, e-contents, andan innovative pedagogy.

While the main focus of this project ison engineering education, it isproposed to use the creative talent ofthese professional students andteachers, to develop applications andcontents for all levels of education,including school education in Indianlanguages.

•Android is Open Source (free to all)operating system .

•It is Linux based system designedprimarily for touch screen mobile devices..

•Initially developed by Android Inc andlater purchased by Google in 2005.

•Android applications are written in javaprogramming language.

•The first Android powered device was soldin Oct 2008

• It allows Android users to select, anddownload applications developed by thirdparty developers and use them.

•There are around 2.0 lack+ games,application and widgets available on themarket for users.
