Six students from our school have been chosen to be part of the i.extend pro‐gram in Western Region. It is an on‐line enrichment program that caters for stu‐dents who are capable of extension pro‐jects. Congratulations: Sydney Tremain, Mackenzie Tremain, Joseph McClure, Bridget Smith, Lachlan Blatch and Shanai Bulter. Mrs Deb Blatch is our school course facilitator and Mrs Jo Blatch is our school coordinator. The course for stu‐dents commences on 12th March. Our School Leaders’ Induction Day will be held on Tuesday, 21st February, com‐mencing at 10:00 am. Parents and friends are invited to attend. Recogni‐tion of our elected 2012 School Leaders, Student Representative Council mem‐bers and Sporting Captains will be a highlight in the ceremony. A guest speaker has been invited. I had the pleasure of writing twelve Good Newsletters for students who were rec‐ognised for their organisation and en‐couraging others to participate in the swimming carnival. The carnival was a success with more students participating this year. Twenty secondary students were chosen to represent the school at the Central Schools’ Swimming Carnival. After this carnival students will be nominated by Mr Olsson to attend the Western Swim‐ming Trials. Selection in the WSSA team involves competing at the NHSWCHS car‐nival in Homebush. Some parents have sent in the “sample” PSP survey form that was attached to the letter to parents. Thank you for being so prompt and enthusiastic about support‐ing our school. The “real” survey will be sent to parents in a special envelope with a slip attached to the flap of the envelope

UN YOUTH DELEGATE VISITS YCS
Last Tuesday a selection of female students from Years 10‐12 were given the opportunity to meet with Miss Lauren Bourke, UN Women Australia Youth Delegate to the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). Each year, representatives from governments, UN bodies, and non‐government organi‐sations from all regions of the world gather for the CSW at United Nations Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide. This year's CSW will focus on the priority theme ‘the empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradica‐tion, development and current challenges’. As the Youth Representative, it is Lauren’s role to represent young Australian women, and ensure that their views and perspectives are considered at CSW and in the recommendations that are agreed. In the lead up to CSW she is undertaking consultations with a range of young women, particularly in rural areas, to better understand their opinions and experiences in order to inform her representations at CSW. The consultation was run as an informal group discussion, on matters such as challenges that face young women in rural areas, the representation of women (for example in the media, in politics and in leader‐ship positions), and their perspectives and opinions on current affairs and world events. NATIONAL YEAR OF READING 2012
Welcome to a new school year. This is the national year of reading and to celebrate, there is a host of literary‐related events and competitions happening right around Australia. For an events calendar and more information go to: www.love2read.org.au. Why not make a late New Year resolution to read more yourself? And if you have younger children and don’t already read regularly to them, set aside some quality time to help instil a love of books and reading. NSW SCHOOLBASED ADOLESCENT VACCINATION PROGRAM 2012
The first round of vaccinations for this year will be held on Wednesday 7 March, 2012 for all Year 7 stu‐dents. Information kits will be sent home with next week’s newsletter.
