The museum is an inverted pyramid, which goes three stories downwards and hosts artifacts dating from 500 BC to 1,600 AD. It is own and operated by the Central Bank of Costa Rica, which started reclaiming archeological objects since 1950 to preserve and protect the country’s cultural heritage. The collections made their way into the Golden Museum in 1982.
