Matt Henderson (Winner of the Governor General's Award for Education) asked me as a teaching professional to define my pursuit of knowledge. I wanted to learn how to use Paper By 53 and my new Pencil by 53 as a useful narrative/teaching tool. This was my both my example and my answer. I release this into the creative commons. Share away. Credit me if you wish.

Transcript of A Quest For Knowledge by GMB Chomichuk

We live now in a world of certainties. Everything can seem to be “known”.

To take off on a flight of fancy is not something many of us want to risk.

Even if you can get off the ground .....

...the question becomes how far we are willing to travel.

What do we do when the landscape be-comes unrecognizable?

It’s then, that you must look inward and see if you have what you need to go on.

Because even when you think you’ve found what you’re looking for...

...you may land in a marketplace of strange ideas.

You will have to leave your safe places behind.

To acquire knowledge you must be bold, and pleasant.

Some of the ideas you encounter will seem alien to you.

You must show a bit of vulnerability.

You must expect to be questioned in return. You are the alien now after all.

In the territory of new ideas even a simple misconception...

...can lead you into frustration and anger.

You must be resolute, but diplomatic.

Give what you hope to get.

Even then the jouney will not be easy.

The path will not be straight.

You will come to places you do not rec-ognize but you can now understand.

You will decipher the structures of the big ideas and find a way inside.

And when the way seems blocked...

...the people familiar with this knowledge will seem much more approachable.

... because you are a better person for the journey.
