"...And crown thy

good with brother-

hood, from sea to

shiny sea."

Blessings on

you all as we cele-

brate another year

in the beautiful

U.S.A. God has

blessed us, and to

Him we offer

praise. I am one of

those few persons

who feel robbed of

the responsibility of combat. I was good in what the

Army trained me to do. Positioned to go just before

the Gulf War, a soldier's "error" shifted my group

from Status 1 to Status 3. I was assigned to the 101st

Airborne Division. With the rotation with the 82nd

Airborne division, by the time my group rolled

around, I was out of the military. I will always treas-

ure my military service, and I will always wonder

how well I would have done in combat. God saw fit

to put me in another "combat."

This month we will have our annual Revival ser-

vices. I pray that much will be done to elevate the

church to a greater height of faith. Our preacher for

this event is Rev. Major Jemison, a former president

of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, and

pastor of St. John Baptist Church of Oklahoma City,

OK. He's preached our Revival before and we wel-

come him once again to our city. After such a stirring

Revival last year, I was trying to find a preacher to

help maintain our level of inspiration.

This month I will be releasing the conclusion of

Lady Evelyn's Journey From cancer. This book is

titled, "Holding On Through The Return." This book

goes from the return of the Cancer to the burial. I.

Am continually grateful for the many of you who

keep me lifted up, and do so much to encourage me. I

am not living in a fog, and I am not pretending to ig-

nore her death. I truly believe in the power of God to

do what it is/was supposed to do. Thanks be to God

for his love. When the book comes out, so many of

you will see how this walk was developed.

May God's grace be on you always, to be a church

in the word, making a difference in the world!

Deadline for the August issue of the PROGRESS is

Sunday, July 28, 2013. Please place your articles in

the PROGRESS mailbox located in the foyer of the

Making a Difference in the World (Part 31)

Progressive Union contently takes actions to

prove itself as being a Church in the Word. Truly

every day means are made available to receive the

Word. There’s Tuesday through Thursday Bible stud-

ies including mid-day studies on Wednesday. Pastor

express studies will be made by appointments if any of

the other times aren’t convenient.

Then there are a lot of emphases put on the way to

worship and serve God. Saturday and Sunday are set

aside for congregation worship depending on your

faith. Wednesday nights are set aside for studies. Vari-

ous auxiliaries and groups set up meeting to decide on

how they will serve God.

Following these methods we consider our self as

being Christians. The word Christian means being

Christ like. Are all these attributes really being Christ

like?

Let’s examine ourselves. Are all the worship and

service we perform done for selfish reasons? Because

of our Church positions, job titles, financial status, or

eloquence in speaking do we feel superior over others?

To be Christ like we must, love unselfishly, humble

ourselves to look after others, and sacrifice our needs

and desires for others that are less fortunate than us.

Christ came in the form of a bondservant and gave

his life for us. Let us ask the Lord to make us more

zealous to labor in his vineyard, and more courage to

be true.

In doing this then we can start: “Making a Differ-

ence in the World”.
