DearInterfaithFamilies,

Canyoubelieveit’salmostspring?Thishasbeenanincredibleschoolyearandwehavehadthegreatpleasureofwatchingyourchildrenlearnandgrowthisyear.Wearelookingforwardtoallofthefunprojectsandactivitiesthatwilltakeplacethesenextfewmonths.

WehadasuccessfulmonthofregistrationinFebruary.Thankyouforregisteringyourchildrenforsummerandtheupcomingschoolyear.Westillhavesomeopeningsforoursummercamps,sopleasestopbytheofficeifyou’dliketoregisteryourchildforacampsession.

OuramazingParent’sClubhasbeenhardatworkplanningandpreparingforthisyear’sFamilyNightandSilentAuction,“APartyintheGarden.”ItwillbeheldonFriday,March31st from5:00– 7:00p.m.Wewillhavegamessetupforourchildrenandfamiliestoenjoyandwonderfulbasketsanditemsonwhichtobid.TheauctionisICDC’sbiggestfundraiseroftheyear,andthemoneyraisedthroughthiseventgoesbackintotheschool.Thefundsareusedtopurchaseeducationalmaterialsfortheclassroomsandlargeritemssuchasplayandshadestructuresfortheplaygrounds.TheParent’sClubalsousessomeofthemoneyraisedtosupportyourchild’steachersthroughtokensofappreciationandsupportwiththeirprofessionaldevelopment.OurFamilyNightandSilentAuctionistrulyanextraordinaryevent,andwehopeyouwillmakeplanstoattendonMarch31st.

Hi! MynameisMarthaKlieandIamdelightedtohavejoinedInterfaithChildDevelopmentCenterasthenewDirector.IwasbornandraisedinLima,Peru,wheremyfamilylives. IhavebeenlivinginTheWoodlandsfor17yearsandIabsolutelylovethiscommunity.MydaughterSammyis13yearsoldandgoestoMcCulloughandmysonNateis11andgoestoSt.Anthonywhereweareveryinvolvedinthechurchaswell.Foralittleovernineyears,IwasMusicDirector,Co-DirectoraswellasLanguagesTeacheratanotherprivateschoolinTheWoodlands.Afterspendingthelastfewyearsinuppermanagementatagloballogisticscompany,Idecideditwastimetocomebacktomyhomecommunityandtoaschoolenvironmentworkingwithchildren.Ihaverunahandfulofhalfmarathons,10forTexas,andIenjoyspendingtimewithmychildren,listeningtomusic,cookingorreading. IamveryexcitedtobecomeapartoftheInterfaithfamilyandbeabletomakeadifferenceinyourchildren’slife!

Health & SafetyIwouldliketotakeamomenttodiscussacommonparasitecalled“PediculusCapitis”AKAheadlice.Itisnothingtobeembarrassedaboutbecauseanyone cangetheadlice.Infact,theypreferacleanerscalptofeedonandcleanerhairtolaytheireggson.Liceareayellowishbrownishcolorandaboutthesizeofasesameseed.Theyfeedonbloodfromthescalpandtheycannotsurvivelongerthanabout24hourswithoutblood.Eggs,ornits,laidbyadultfemales,aretightlycementedtothesideofhairshafts.Licespreadprimarilyfromhead-to-headdirectcontact.Theycannotjumporfly,buttheydomoveveryfast.Theyalmostalwaysarenotseenbecausewhenyoupartthehairtheyrunfromthelight.Itisnotunusualtohavelicebutonlybeabletoseethenits(eggs)onthehairshaft.Also,ourpetscannotcontractheadlice.

• Whateffectscanlicehaveonpeople?Licedoesnotcauseanykindofdisease.Symptomsincludeitchingandscratchingespeciallyatthenapeoftheneckandbehindtheears,wheretheyliketolaytheireggs.Possibleredmarksmightbeseenonthescalpandinfectedsorescouldoccurfromscratchingorexcessivebites.

• Whatdo“Nits”looklike? Usuallyanivoryteardropshapedeggthatstickstothehairshaft.Itcannotbeflickedofflikedandruffanditisnotflatorflaky.Nitshatchin7to10daysandupto30%ofnitsareNOTkilledbyliceshampooslikeRIDorNIX.Itisverydifficulttotella“live”nitfroma“dead”nit.

• Whatisthelifecycleofalouse? Licehavealifespanofapproximately30days,duringwhichtimeonefemalecanlay100to400nits/eggs.Thenitshatchevery7to10days.

• HowdoIgetridofLice?LiquidPermethrinlike“NIX”orliquidpyrethrinlike“RID”mustbeusedinitiallywiththedailycombing(Thiswillonlykillthelivelice,itwillNOT eliminatetheeggs).Onlyphysicallyremovingtheeggs,bycombingwithalicecombwilleliminatethem.Thisprocessmustberepeatedwithin7to10daystokillanynewlyhatchedeggs.Researchersbelievethatlicearedevelopingstrainsthatresistchemicalextermination.

• Preventionofliceinfestationorre-infestation.Teachyourchildnottosharecombs,brushes,hatsorhelmetsandtohavethemputtheirhatsintheircoatpocketwhentheyarenotinuse.Brushesandcombscanbeputonthetopshelfofthedishwashertodisinfect.Vacuumtheentirehouseanduseatapelentrolleronanythingthatcannotbevacuumed,likeleathercouchesandcarseats.Checkeverymemberofthefamilyforlice.Combwithalicecombeverydaytoremoveanymissednits.Washallbeddinginhotwater,thendryindryerfor30minuteseverynightonhighheat.Youmaybagitemsandsticktheminthefreezerfor2days.Anystuffedanimalsthatcannotbewashedcanbebaggedinanairtightbagforafewdays.Informanyoneyourchildmighthavehadasleepoverwith.Itisimportanttonotifytheschoolifacaseofheadliceisdiscovered.

InterfaithChildDevelopmentCenterhasa“NO-Nit”policy.IfyourchildcontractsliceIwillperformclassroomchecksroutinelyoneveryoneinthatclass.Iwillneedtocheckthatallnitshavebeenremovedfromthehairbeforethechildwillbeallowedtore-entertheschool.Enjoyyourspringbreak!

Hello,mynameisAngelaWardsworth.IamthenewafternoonassistantforA-15.IgrewupinKenya,whereIcompletedmyformaleducation,includingcollege.MyprofessionaltrainingisinTravelandTourismmanagement.Aftercollege,IworkedinKenyaforawhileandlaterrelocatedtotheUnitedStates.WhilelivinginAmerica,Ihaveworkedinretailandbanking.IresignedfromcorporateAmericaaftermyfirstbornsonwasborn.

Iammarriedwith3beautifulchildren.Asaforementioned,Ihave2sonsandadaughter.MyjourneywithInterfaithbegun10yearsagowhenmyeldestsonstartedattendingMs.AmandaandMs.Amy’sclass;later,mydaughterandyoungestsonfollowedsuit.

Alltheteachersthattaughtmychildrenwereexcellent,notonlyintheirprofessionalism,butinwarmth,characterandexampletoo.Presently,theseteachersarestillteachingattheschool.Thisinitselfisatestamenttotheschools’reputationofbeingagreatschoolforchildren,becauseoftheleadership.

Thisschoolyear,myyoungestsonstartedattendingKindergarten.Justlikehissiblings,hewaswellpreparedtogotothe“big”(elementary)school,wheretheyareallexcellingintheirstudies.Myloveforlearninganddesiretohelpotherfamiliesinpreparingtheiryoungonesforalifestyleoflearningpromptedmetorejointheworkforce.Iloveteachingandseeingchildrenblossom.Iamhonoredtoserveyouandyourchildren.Togetherwewillworktobuildandmoldfutureleaders,whowillleadtheircommunitiesandcountryatlarge,withskill,ingenuity,wisdomandintegrity.

Hello!MynameisLindaMurphyandI’msoexcitedtojointheInterfaithfamilyworkingwithfouryearoldseveryafternoon.Ithinkchildrenareanextraordinary,magnificentblessinginourlives!Itistrulyaprivilegetoteachthemandcareforthem.IgrewupinRochester,NewYork.Iamtheoldestoffivechildren.MyB.A.wasearnedattheUniversityofKentuckywithapsychology/sociologymajor.IearnedmyMastersinEducationattheUniversityofMiamiwithadegreeinpsychologyandcounseling.Ihavethreegrownchildrenandtwowonderfulgrandchildrenages9and5.Fortwenty-fiveyears,IservedasajuniorhighschoolcounseloratMagnoliaJuniorHigh…amemorableandgreatexperience.Iamnowretiredbutlovehistory,reading,traveling,poetryandchildren.IhavebeentoParis,London,Italy,China,CostaRicaandtheMiddleEast.Everyjourneyisanadventure!Thankyoufortheopportunitytoworkwithyourchildrenandtobepartofsuchanoutstandingpreschool.
