On Thursday, Fung Global Retail & Technology attended a 2016 Women Leaders inRetail,TechnologyandFinancecelebrationattheStoryconceptstoreinNewYorkCity.TheeventwashostedbyBernsCommunicationsGroup,andapproximately25womenleadersinretail,technologyandfinancegatheredinformallyforapreholidaybreakfasttonetwork,shopandhonorinnovatorsYaelVizel,theco-founderofZeekit,andAndreaTobin, the co-founder of RevCascade. The event kicked off with networking andbrowsing inStory, thecuratedManhattanstore thathostsmore than200brandsandfeatures more than 2,000 unique gifts and SKUs carefully displayed across multiplerooms.

Insights from Story Concept Store Founder RachelShechtmanThe 2016Women Leaders in Retail, Technology andFinance breakfast kicked off with event host StacyBerns of Berns Communications Group welcomingeveryone to the event. VizelsaidshecreatedZeekitbecauseearlierattemptsat“try-on”technologiesweretoocomplicated and shewas frustrated by the issue of fit when shopping online. BeforeVizeltackledthedigitalretailspace,shewasafighter-jetflight-simulatorprogrammerinthe Israel Air Force. She later became the first female commander of thetelecommunicationstechnicalofficers’course,andsheusedthatexperiencetohelpherto create the Zeekitmodel,which combines brand image processing, big data and e-commerceinasingletool.

RevCascade is helping retailers run their entire marketplace through drop shipping,whereby manufacturers ship directly to consumers. RevCascade Co-Founder AndreaTobin said that the inspiration for themarketplace concept cameon theheels of herhandbag line, Marla Cielo. Tobin sold her bags through marketplaces, and said theprocesswasvery“manual.”Shespenta lotoftimeupdatingproduct information,anddecided a direct-to-consumermodel would be better, so she started working on theRevCascademodel.

RevCascade,featuredinTheWallStreetJournal,haspartneredwithCrateandBarrelonthe launch of its marketplace. Crate and Barrel was integrated into RevCascade’splatform in less than a month. The advantage of the marketplace is that it allowsproductssoldatCrateandBarrel.comtobedropshippedtoconsumersfromCrateandBarrel’s selected brands. The retailer marketplaces are a win for both retailers andparticipating brands because they can generate additional revenue. Crate and Barrelitemscanbesoldtoawideraudience,andthecompanycanholdlessinventory.
